Taste of Death

"The Doctor is here, my lord." the head house-maid announce as she assist the doctor inside the room. The mistress is in labor which suprise them all since they are not expecting it this early. 

"Thanks for coming this late, Doctor. My wife, she's... she's in labor and we... she's only 7 months pregnant, isn't it dangerous? please save them, doctor." the head of the house said. Worry is evident in his face. The doctor nod and assured him with a smile.

"I'll do everything I can, Mr. Thorne." Doctor said as she leave to go where the mistress is.

"Thanks goodness, Doctor. P-please help us. Ahhh. My child." the mistress is breathing heavily and writhing in pain as she struggle to push the baby out. The doctor hurriedly prepare his things and move to her side to help her deliver the baby.

"Breath in, Breath out. Good, now push. I can see the baby now. Push." the mistress do as she says and moments later the room is filled with silence and gasp. 

"D-doctor, where is my baby? Why?" the mistress softly said. She try to reach out to where the doctor is and hold on his coat. She saw the doctor's face full of pitty while looking down to the baby. "What is it Doctor? Why isn't my baby crying?"

The doctor shakes her head and walk towards her while carrying the baby.

"I am sorry, my lady. The baby is dead." The doctor said as she lay the baby on the mother's chest. The mistress hold the baby and sob.

" No, Please no. Let my baby live." the mistress sob and look at her baby but her sob stop as her eyes focus on the baby. " Oh my Goodness, why is my baby looked like this? No, what happened?" she histerically ask.

"The baby is still premature. She's not yet fully developed, my lady and because of that she did not make it and die." The Doctor explained. 

The doctor get the baby as she try to calm the mistress. She get a small cloth to wrap it around the baby's body when suddenly the baby wiggle and a loud cry filled the room. Everybody in the room was stunned as they all thought she was dead. 

"Goodness! She's alive my lady! The baby is alive! This is a miracle!" the doctor exclaimed as to what she witness just now. She carefully wrap the baby with the soft cloth and walk to the mistress.

"Doctor, w-what about my baby's appearance would it fully develop?" the mistress ask while looking at the baby.

"There are cases that it will fully develop in time but this severe deformation, this is first time I'm seeing this. Don't worry, my lady. I will come hear every month to check on the baby." 

2 years later

"Doctor, we've been waiting for 2 years now. Why hasn't anything change? She still look monstrous!" The mistress exclaimed in frustration while looking disgusted at her daughter. She can't attempt to look at her own daughter for too long. It's making her nauseous.

"I've been doing some test on her, my lady, but due to premature birth, her cells are slow at making in progress. I suggest we wait for her to develoop at her own pace." The doctor said with worry. She's been doing her best for the childs development but all her work has been for nothing. It seems to it that the child grows slowly than normal. 

"No, no, no, we can't wait any longer. Is there anything else we can do? Can we do any surgery?" she ask, clearly impatient. The doctor shakes her head with a sad smile. 

"No, my lady, her heart is too weak and she's too young. She can't handle it, she might die." the doctor said. The doctor felt sympathetic towards the young child because she can't do anything for her and that's making her so sad and her heart clench.

"Well, she better be dead anyway, if she stay like that!" the doctor was horrified at what she heard. She opens her mouth to say something but then close it again. She saw how disgusted the mistress is while looking at the child. 

"You may go now, doctor." The head of the family said and call the maid to assist her going out. 

"What should we do, Anthony?" The mistress ask her husband. He sighed heavily and shook his head. He looks at the poor child and plump to his sit to think of a way to help her. 

"I don't know Emily." He look at the child sitting at the corner of the room silently just staring at them blankly. 

"We can't have stay like that forever! We need to do something! We can't sacrifice everything if she's gonna stay like that!" she shouted, not happy of the situation.

"What do you suggest we do? Kill her?" he asked. 

"If that's the only option we have, we will." she said full of determination. Her eyes is narrowed.

"That will be a disgrace to our family if we do that!" she looked at him and laugh while shaking her head.

"Look Anthony, look at you daughter!" she said pointing at the child at the corner. He followed her and look at their child. He sighed again, not knowing what to do. "That child is a monster. She is so disfigured. She already is a disgrace to our family. Do you think we are not humiliated enough of how she looked? Everyone is already looking for her. They already know we have a child. We can't hide her forever saying she's sick!

"If we staged an accident, we will just tell everyone that she did not make it and... and died because of her sickeness." she said.

"I understand your point. But we can't kill our own child." he said. He don't want to do this but if this is for the sak of their family's reputation. 

"We'll look for someone who can do it for us. We have a lot of money. We can pay anyone to do it, but we need to hurry, we have the company's anniversary coming up." she said while in a trance, thinking of a way to get rid of their monster of a child. She looked at her child again and disgust is visible on her face. 

"I'll ask some of my men to do it. We'll look for something for it." her husband said as he pick up his phone and try to dial someone. "I'll hire a fake nurse to kill her." he said. 

"That'll do. I'll just call the Head house-maid to lock her out in her room." Emily said before turning her back to get out of the room. 

"Mandy, Please lock the child on her room. Make sure she does not get out and no one will see her." Emily gave the key to Mandy. Mandy pity the child. 

The child barely talks, and was always on her room locked up. The family make sure no one else gets to know of the child and was considered as a monster in the house. 

She's too young but the world is already cruel to her.
