The Results Are In, Part 2
Author: boobunny71RYAN’S POV
As soon as Dr. Gail left the examination room to run the labs, a tech came in and took Scarlett down to the imaging department to get the ordered X-rays. I had several minutes to myself before she was returned. I sat down, running my hands through my already unruly dish blonde hair, in complete confusion. I mind-linked my Beta, Chris, for an update on the rogue situation and to make sure that no one else at the carnival had been attacked or aware of the breech. “No one other than us, is aware that anything happened with rogues. There have been no additional reports of anyone else being attacked. They must have only been here for Emily. Thankfully, they didn’t succeed,” he responded. I knew it was something that would need to be addressed with my warriors. He also informed me that the remaining guests from the carnival were leaving and making their way to their own homes as well as the fact that the captured rogues had been remanded to the dungeons until I was ready to interrogate them. I thanked him and told him to be on stand-by in case I needed him further before I cut the mind-link. Outside of this rogue problem that presented itself, Halloween Carnival was overall a success.
When Scarlett was returned to the room, I pulled a chair up next to her bed and sat there quietly, holding her hand. As I looked at her, I was searching my memory for any clue of who she was and who her family was, but I was coming up empty. This concerned me because even though we had over 1500 wolves in our pack, one of the top three largest packs in North America, there were very few people that I didn’t at least recognize by sight even if I didn’t know what their name was. I linked my Gamma, Ophelia, to pull up a pack roster and email me the worksheet. I figured that as long as I was sitting here, I could use the time wisely and try to do some investigative work. I wanted to try to figure out who her family is, if for no other reason, than to inform them that she is in the hospital, unconscious.
While I was waiting for Ophelia to send me the email with the requested documents, Emily came in with some more clothes for me since the only thing I had on was the sweatpants I had pulled on after shifting at the pack house. “How is she?” Emily asked, looking helplessly at Scarlett as she slept, seemingly peacefully. “Honestly, I don’t know. Dr. Gail is running some tests, so we won’t really have any answers until they come back,” I replied. I strolled over to her and enveloped her in a brotherly bear hug. With my voice soft, I asked her, “How are you holding up, sis? I know this had to have taken a toll on you, too. Are you OK?” I asked as I looked her up and down for any signs of physical injury. “I’m fine, honestly. See,” as she twirled around 360 degrees to show and convince me that there were no physical injuries. “But I don’t know what would have happened if she hadn’t shown up when she did,” Emily began to sob.
I guided her over to the couch to sit and suggested that she try to rest while I went and got a cup of coffee from the vending machine down the hall. “I’ll bring you your favorite unhealthy choices back with me, OK? Now let’s see, that would be a King size package of Reece’s Cups and a 20 oz. bottle of Coke, right?” I asked as I ruffled the hair on the top of her head. She smiled through her tears and nodded her head, all the while staring at Scarlett.
As I walked down the hall to the vending machines, I pondered on what Dr. Gail and I had discovered upon removing Scarlett’s inflated Mrs. Potato Head costume. The physical abnormalities of being significantly overweight was something I had never seen from any wolf. Our pups may have a little baby-fat pudge when they are young, but after puberty when all wolves shift, that goes away fairly quickly due to the extremely high metabolism we have and the mandatory training that every pack member is required to begin once they shift for the first time. With our metabolism levels being as high as they are and the rigorous training everyone is subjected to, our pack wolves are lean, muscular and fit. The only exceptions to the mandatory training rule were the pups, the elders and our pregnant she-wolves.
The other thing that caught us off guard was the thick prescription glasses she was wearing. Most wolves never have any type of vision problems unless they are extremely old, and even then, the problems are fairly minimal, like only needing low prescription reading glasses. However, even if a younger cub shows signs of having vision problems, again this is basically rectified once the person shifts for the first time. That is when a person’s wolf’s regeneration and healing abilities started working, and therefore took care of small adolescent health problems.
I returned to the room with my coffee and Emily’s snacks to find her sound asleep, curled up on the couch. I retrieved a blanket from the closet and covered her up before returning to my chair at Scarlett’s bedside. I reached out and took her hand again, holding it, rubbing my thumb in small circles on the back of her hand. Speaking softly, I leaned over towards her and whispered, “I don’t know who you are, but I would really like to. However, in order for that to happen, you are going to have to come back to me.”
Just as I felt at the carnival when we were walking around and talking about nothing, there was a level of comfort that I felt just being near her. If I had to describe the feeling, I would say that it felt like returning home after a long trip; like being wrapped in a warm, fuzzy blanket for two while sipping on homemade hot chocolate sitting on the porch swing. There was just a cozy familiarity to being in her presence that I could not explain. But I knew that I liked it. As I was replaying the time I spent with Scarlett at the Carnival and how my body and emotions reacted to her, Dr. Gail returned. Sticking her head in the door, she saw that Emily was sleeping on the couch and motioned for me to meet her in the hallway. I tucked Scarlett’s hand under the blanket before leaving her to talk with Dr. Gail.
When I stepped out into the hall, Dr. Gail began to explain that the lab work did not help to answer many questions, but in fact had presented a plethora of additional questions. According to Dr. Gail, Scarlett was injected with a bioengineered potion that was comprised of a mixture of Belladonna (which causes tachycardia, explaining the increased heartrate), Moondust (which inhibits health regeneration) Monkshood and Wolfsbane (both of which prevent shifting). According to the labs, there were different levels of wolfsbane and monkshood which was why she felt that Scarlett had endured years of suffering by way of some type of cocktail potion. This would explain, partially, why the X-rays proved she had never shifted, also somewhat answering why she was overweight and had vision problems. It did not, however, answer why she was refused the possibility to shift at puberty, why someone would give any wolf this cocktail of toxins unless they were an enemy and being tortured or interrogated for information. Certainly not a harmless and innocent child.
This information was difficult at best to process. But when she dropped the bomb that Scarlett also tested positive for Luna’s Metal (silver) as well as Angel’s Essence (which gives a natural immunity to silver), I felt anger boil up at the injustices that Scarlett had endured at the hands of Goddess-knows-who. The Angel’s Essence was a complete mystery though. The only ways I knew of that anyone would have Angel’s Essence in their DNA was 1) be an angel, which had already been determined to not be the case, or 2) to be infused with it from an Angel. I had never even met an angel and they honestly were deemed more myth than reality.
At some point, Emily came out into the hall and heard most of the results, upsetting her further. Confusion was the first and foremost feeling in my mind. But what I was completely sure of was that this was not a discussion to be had in the open hallway of the hospital. I turned to Dr. Gail, suggesting that we move this discussion to the conference rooms before turning on my heel and making my way towards the offices without another word. I mind-linked Chris and Georgia to get to the hospital ASAP and to be ready for a long night.

Only Time Will Tell A Shift in Power
ANA’S POVWe left the steak house, our tummies full of what was one of the best meals I remember having in years and headed straight for the pack house. I had been offered to stay at the pack house when I was with Emily earlier that morning. We started heading up the stairs towards her room when I was surprised by Emily reverting my course away from her room to the next door over. “You won’t need to share my bed anymore, you have your own,” she said quietly. She asked me to close my eyes before she opened the door and walked me in, holding my shoulders, guiding me. Once we were completely in the room, she allowed me to open my eyes. I had to blink several times partly because of complete shock of what I was seeing, but also to keep the tears that were stinging the sides of my eyes from releasing all over my face. “Oh, my Goddess, Em! Is this all for me?”
Only Time Will Tell Precautions Explained
ANA’S POVI woke up with a start. Looking towards the window, I could see daylight, so I knew that I still had time. Although I’ve only been to the Dreamscape twice, I already knew I loved the place. The absolute peace that I could feel all the way into my bones, my soul, was enough to make me yearn for more uninterrupted, quality time there. But then my logical (and killjoy) mind intercedes and reminds me that for a wolf to have the opportunity to meet with Selene even once in a lifetime was a painfully rare occurrence, but to be invited for a return visit, well that was unheard of. It only existed in dreams.I reached for my phone to text Emily. It was almost 6 p.m. and as my stomach began to growl, I realized that I had not eaten all day. I decided to see if Em had eaten yet and if not, invite her to meet me at the café a couple of blocks from the packhouse around 7.
Only Time Will Tell Trust the Process, Part 2
SCARLETT’S POVUgghh, that little human of mine! Sometimes she was so extremely annoying while others she was just clueless. I was trying to tell about her first shift because although wolves didn’t typically get any kind of head’s up to prepare them for their first shift from human to wolf, she was a different situation, completely.Yes, I was well aware that she had called out to me not long before her body succumbed to the sheer exhaustion she felt and fell asleep, peacefully. I sat in the back of Ana’s mind and tried to collect my own self. Suddenly, I felt a familiar pull. My soul stirred with elation before I actually heard the loving melody that I associated with Selene. We were on our way to the Dreamscape again. This was my first home before I became Ana’s wolf. It was no longer freely open to me so whenever an occasion arose to commune with Selene, I
Only Time Will Tell Trust the Process
ANA’S POVAfter the bombs that first Ophelia quickly followed by Cale dropped on me this morning, I had to excuse myself from the group. I needed time alone to process everything that I had experienced over the last ten days. I left Emily’s office and headed back to my hotel room. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if my stuff would still be there. Scarlett had only paid for about two weeks when she got the room for us. The days just melted into each other and I was having a hard time keeping track. Before I even realized it, I was standing under the awning of the hotel at the entrance. Before going in, I fished my room key card out of my purse. Taking a deep breath, I pushed through the revolving door into the lush lobby. It was very tastefully decorated with a hint of class that wasn’t over the top, but pleasingly comfortable.
Only Time Will Tell New Developments
EMILY’S POVI’m sitting in my office with Ana after we left Georgia at the training field, talking about nothing in particular when Ryan, Chris and Ophelia walked in, each carrying a box full of computers and computer hardware. “What the hell is all that?” I asked, pointing at the boxes. “It’s for the bake sale tomorrow,” Ryan answered sarcastically, “What the hell does it look like, genius?” he asked as he set his box down beside the door. I glared at him and asked with just as much sarcasm dripping from each of next words, “I meant, where did they come from and why are they being brought to my office?”Before Ryan could huff out another crap-ass answer, Chris stepped in, “Em, these are the computers from the orphanage, all of them. It’s been an extremely lon
Only Time Will Tell Hidden Labyrinth Discovered
RYAN’S POVAs soon as the smoke cleared and we all realized that Janice had disappeared without a trace, I could feel my wolf, Hunter, trying to claw his way to the forefront. I was beyond pissed. I was furious. I yelled out, using my bull Alpha Voice to “FIND HER!”. Ophelia tried to calm me by hugging me from behind, wrapping her tiny arms around my waist. Ophelia was always good for a calming embrace. It usually worked, like she has some kind of mellowing magic, but I was incensed beyond what a simple hug was going to calm. I simply could not believe that not only was Janice gone, but that we had no inclination that she was in cahoots with witches. It was the only explanation as to why she had a potion in her possession that enabled her to vanish into thin air.“Did anyone here have any knowledge that Janice had ties to witches?” I asked, my voice still booming in the Alpha octave, ra
