OH MY LOVELY GHOST

I stared wide-eyed at the body in front of me.

A girl.

She was probably at seventeen years old. She was wearing a school uniform.

Like what I wear.

Her body was contorted in an angle I couldn't quite describe but I know would be painful, and her face was covered with her long dry hair and with her own blood.

The thing that made me wide-eyed was...

I am that girl.

The last thing I remember was- I am walking quietly and arrived in front of the pedestrian lane. I patiently waited and followed the traffic sign.

As I crossed the road, a car at a very fast speed came running towards me. Without even given a second to think, the car slammed to my body that sent me flying- literally, my soul went flying.

But before that, I felt the extremely painful sensation all over my body, especially in my head. And when I stood up, that's where I found the body.

My body.

Even I was startled for a moment and I could not think clearly, I know I am that girl.

People came running to me- my body, while few people called the ambulance and the police.

The car that hit me that appeared swiftly also gone swiftly.

I was still shocked and in a daze when the ambulance arrived. When they put me inside the ambulance car I also followed.

What I'm gonna do? Even I trespass in the car, no one seemed to see me. Which made me nervous. I also tried to speak to them but they were not looking at me. When I tried to touch them, my hands just penetrated them. I watched with wide eyes as my hand just passed through them.

Dread overcame my being as I understood one thing.

Did I ....really die?

Did I separate from my body eternally?

Did I become a wandering ghost?

They were all fearsome questions for me.

I tried to think about why this should happen to me. Am I a bad girl that needed to be extinguished in this world, so bad people would be less? Or am I a super good girl that God put an end to my life so that I would not suffer any more in this world?

Suddenly it dawned on me.

Why am I on that road?
Am I going home after school? Or going to visit someone?
Drop by some places?

No. I don't know.

I could not remember anything at all.

This made me frightened more.

Who am I?

Thousands of questions popped up in my head. About my identity and why this shit thing happened to me.

I looked around.

Maybe some angel or death guide or grim reaper would appear beside me.

I was waiting for them and I would demand an explanation. It was not fair for me to die like this.

I am still young and I don't know who was that bastard that killed me! And also, I don't know anything about myself. I could not leave this world without knowing anything. What if I have a loving family waiting for me? A younger sibling that only depends on me? Or maybe I am a young mother who left a child behind? Or maybe a boyfriend I promised to marry to? Aghh! I could not die yet! Not now!

Minutes passed and we arrived at the hospital. The emergency staff quickly strolled the stretcher to the emergency room. The doctor and the nurses ran and went to the room. I also followed.

"Please....please.....don't let me die....save me....!" I plead to them even they did not hear my pleas.

The doctor in charge checked everything on me first before they put on their surgical masks and tools. The operation then began.

I watched as the head doctor opened my brain. He got some tool like a small hose and that thing sucked the overflowing blood on my head. Seeing the blood and my brain made me puke. I could not watch anymore and I just went outside and waited. I was really nervous. I could die at any minute.

As minute passed turn into hours, the door finally opened. The doctor who opened my head sighed a relief. As he was about to tell the condition of the patient, he found no one in the waiting area.

He furrowed his brow. He walked through the hallway.

While he was walking I persistently asked the doctor.

"Am I fine? Am I still alive? Did you sigh a relief, right? Does it mean my life is not in danger now? Will I wake up soon?"

But the doctor ignored me. He stopped in front of the reception area.

"The patient from a car accident, did you contact her parents?"

The nurses who were busying themselves at the records looked at the doctor and answered him.

"Dr. Henry, the student has no phone. So we only use her I.D. We called the school and they said they will notify the parents." the nurse said.

" Ok. Just send them to my office when they arrive."

"Yes, Doc."

When the Doctor was gone I approached the nurse who answered the doctor.

"Where are my things? I would like to take a look at them." But they don't answer, they did not even glance at my direction.

Aghhh! This is so frustrating! Why no one could see me?! At least one living person is fine!

I floated back to the emergency room. I saw them transferring me to another room.

My head was covered in gauze. There was a hose in my nose to keep me breathing. Some machines were attached to it. I followed them until they settled my body to the bed. It was a small room. Like isolation room. After checking some materials, the nurses closed the door and left me with my body. I stared at myself.

So pale. My eyes have deep sockets. Did I did not get enough sleep? I looked average with my black hair and long lashes. I am also thin. I look sick. Yeah, I just got from the accident.

After staying in a daze for a while I just got this sick idea to lie down with my body. I penetrated through it. Closing my eyes and opening it again. I stood up.

But my body still lies down.

I did this thing for hundred times with different positions, different timing, different tricks. But none works.

It was so frustrating! I could not return to my body! It's my body for turtle sake! I own it!

Fed up. I floated around the room. Shouting, rolling, and cursing to vent my frustration.

After I calmed down, an idea came suddenly.

I wake up with no memory. The only thing I remembered was the accident. But before that, my mind was fuzzy and hurting whenever I would think of the past. If I regained my memory maybe I could go back inside my body?

Yeah...

Yeah.

Yeah!!

It was possible!

I regained my spirit. Hope filled my heart. I was blinded by the hope that I did not think of any logic in it.

Hmmm..

Maybe I could regain my memories if I saw things I am familiar with before.

Like...

My parents!

They would come later. If I saw them and followed their daily lives for sure I will remember who I am. That would be easy.

I became excited.

Yeah, I would patiently wait.
