Chapter 17

Dixon looked very shocked, as if he felt something really astounding in his heart. He asked in a murmur, "What did the abortion two years ago take from you?"

He heard it clearly and there was no reason for me to repeat it.

"Just let go of Summer. She also has someone she loves waiting for her. You can only blame it on Gwen's trouble-making personality. Just take a look at what she did eight years ago, you'll know what she's done. She took someone's lover away. Now, Summer is simply taking her revenge. Plus, Gwen said something horrible to make Summer do this. Your fiancée is never as innocent as you think." After a pause, I said sarcastically, "I was wrong. You are Dixon Gregg, you can do everything. You know everything others have done. Now you are just indulging her."

Dixon frowned and said indifferently, "I'll check that later, but you have to explain the thing that happened two years ago. What happened after you had an abortion?"

What happened after I had an abortion?

Even I did not want to remember it again.

The doctor did the operation but did not clean my womb, causing it to get infected. While I still had not recovered, he abused me.

I coldly and perfunctorily said, "Nothing. It just depends on personal conditions. After the abortion, I hadn't recovered and the doctor said it would be hard for me to get pregnant again. So why do you think I'd give the Shaw Corporations to you? It's just because I'm worn out after managing it for so many years and I also don't have an heir."

After a while, Dixon closed his eyes and said, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"Dixon, who are you talking to?"

Inside, Gwen Worth suddenly called him. I sneered and left the hospital for the police station.

I wanted to bail Summer out but I had nothing on me now.

I had personally given my power away to Dixon.

However, he had used it against my friend.

I stayed with Summer in the police station until dawn. The second day, Gwen Worth's lawyer arrived.

It was more like Dixon's lawyer, actually.

The lawyer represented Dixon's attitude.

Dixon wanted an explanation for everything to do with Gwen Worth, so he sentenced Summer to a five-month period in prison, three-fourths shorter than the previous five years, which was his compromise.

Summer accepted it and asked me to take care of Joseph.

She said tearfully, "I'll go find him five months later. I hope he won't move to avoid me. I can't bear the pain of losing him again. Do you think I'll be with him after five months?"

I also cried and said firmly, "You'll be together."

She had waited for him for eight years and nothing could stop her love anymore.

Summer went to prison and I started to arrange affairs to sell the tea house.

Later, a couple of strangers purchased it for a million.

I deposited it in the bank. When Summer got released from prison, she would withdraw it.

By the time I finished all that, a month had passed.

I knew clearly that I had only about a month left.

A month would practically pass in the blink of an eye. My health deteriorated rapidly and I blacked out several times on the street, only waking up because of the cold. Luckily, I had not been unconscious for such a long time that I froze to death.

I was afraid that I would suddenly pass out so I stayed indoors as much as possible. I called to appoint a team of photographers to shoot a black-and-white photo of me in the villa. I did not wear makeup in the photo. I looked calm and smiled decently.

On the 27th of December, I even went to a cemetery to pick a spot for myself.

After coming down the mountain, I seemed to think of something and went to the piano training institution.

In the distance, I heard the Street Where Wind Resides.

I squatted at the door, surprised to see Dixon playing inside. When he put his slim fingers on the keys, they looked exceptionally pretty and powerful.

Why had he come here on the 27th of December?

I pressed my lips together and did not go in to interrupt him in the end.

I did not dare to and did not want to disturb him.

I still could not forgive him in the end.

Finally, I still hated him.

I cried my heart out, squatting at the door and feeling wronged. I was choked and did not know what to do. The piano music from inside the door suddenly stopped and I heard his baffled voice. "Who's there?"

I quickly rose up, ran away, and cried my eyes out downstairs.

Wu City seemed to know I was sad and the rain kept pouring down. I was drenched all over my body. When I took a turn downstairs, I caught him watching me from upstairs.

He seemed far away and his gaze seemed to pass through countless stars and dust to finally land on me.

I felt choked when I looked at him, and he stared back at me pitifully.

I saw him opening his thin lips. The rain was loud. In fact, I did not hear a word he said, but I could still hear him in my mind asking clearly, "Aren't you cold in the rain? Why are you so sad?"

I shook my head to deny it. "I'm not sad."

He felt sure and said, "Lass, you're crying."

I was crying very badly because I had thought the rain was covering cover me. However, he had discovered me and I turned around to flee.

I left the place that I had felt attached to my entire life.

When I got back to the Shaw house, I took a hot bath and changed into a cotton nightgown. When I was lying on the bed to sleep, I felt someone hold me in his arms.

I opened my eyes and looked at the man beside me.

I sat up in disbelief. "How come you're here?"

His features were still strong and handsome, the same as they looked in the daytime. I thought my time with him had run out. However, he acted like nothing had happened and said flatly, "Our relationship hasn't ended yet."

I hurriedly rose up and said, "It's over. It completely ended one month ago."

"Caroline, I want to continue our relationship like how it was in the past."

I asked coldly, "On what grounds can you do that?"

In the daytime, he said he didn't want to be around me as if it had been natural for him. Now, he came over just to pity me?

He was always like that. He would first slap me and then give me candy.

"Our relationship hasn't ended yet. How about I give the Shaw Corporations back to you?"

He would even threaten me with the Shaw Corporations?!

I sneered as I said, "OK, give it back to me! After that, I can deal with Gwen Worth. I promise, as long as I can have my power I had before, I will not let her have what she wants."

He said in a calm voice, "The Shaw Corporations has always been in your hands."

Yes, the transferring contract was still in the hands of Mr. Connor. Now, the Shaw Corporations still belonged to me nominally, but I already lacked the time and energy to care about those things.

I reminded him, "Recently, you've been managing the Shaw Corporations."

"If you want it, it'll be yours."

"If I'm really going to have it, it must be because you and your fiancee have p*ssed me off! Dixon, before I drive you out, you'd better be sensible and leave by yourself. I don't want to see you now at all."

Dixon sighed and said, "You're really angry."

"Why do you think I wouldn't get angry?" I rose up and opened my closet. I took out a pink coat and put it on while I threatened him icily, "Either you leave, or I'll go now."

I felt angry, therefore, I directly opened the door to leave. I drove my sports car out of the garage to the seaside. Only when the cold breeze from the sea blew over me did I feel better.

I hated the most when Dixon acted as if everything was reasonable just like he had been doing now.

Why did he think I would forgive him?

Essentially, he was two-timing me now.

He was a typical bad boy.

Moreover, because of the thing about Summer, I could not bring myself to forgive him.

Just when I felt really upset, Dixon called me.

I picked up and coldly said, "Please leave my house."

Dixon suddenly called me lightly. "Caroline."

I said impatiently, "What?"

"Actually, I came to you today because I wanted to clarify something. Before, I thought I could make things up to you, so I took good care of you. I haven't realized the problem with this until now."

I asked in a cold voice, "What do you want to say?"
