First Day

Penelope, wake up," Mom says within my ear. "No," I mumble, while pulling up my blanket over my face. "Penelope Marie Andrews," Mom says, tension growing thicker in the room. "I'm awake, I'm awake," I say lifting up. Mom smiles, "Good, now I'm taking Austin to school. Have a good day!" She then walks out of the room, down the stairs.

Man, I'm exhausted as crap. 

I stayed up till 2 o'clock in the morning because I couldn't stop thinking about school. 

Usually I don't do that.

Emphasis on usually.

After a while of me trying to keep awake, and find something to wear, I'm downstairs, making toast. 

It's kinda funny how life for me has changed so much, so fast.

Almost unbelievable....

I've moved across so many states, with just me, and my family.

Well...part of my family actually exists as sad as that may sound.

I sigh, when suddenly, my phone begins buzzing. 

That's odd...

I dig into my pocket, pulling out my phone. I turn it on, and notice a new text message from...

My aunt Cassie...

I roll my eyes in disgust, reading the message.

Cassie: Hey sweetie! I just wanted to see how you were. It's been a while since we've talked, and I just wanted to know how you were since the move!

Lies, and scandal...

After everything that happened...the way she treated us...

I exit my texting app, refusing to answer her so called innocent question.

My aunt Cassie isn't a really nice lady. She's my aunt on my Dad's side, and she's one of the reasons why we left Florida. 

She was just rude for no real reason. She was neglectful towards me, and Austin, and often left us home alone at ages 9, and 2.

Plus she, and my Mom were never really on the best of terms. They hated each other, and I never found out why...

But I believe it has something to do with some old high school drama that physically left a scar on my Mom.

Which explains why she limps slightly...

"What smells like burnt bread?" I ask aloud, sniffing the air. I look to my left, and yelp, "MY TOAST!!!"

As I quickly eat what's left of my toast 2.0, I'm walking to the bus stop, playing games on my phone.

Angry Birds...you gotta love those furious birds. 

They always mean business.

Anyway, I arrive there about 14 minutes early. Wow, that's a record, especially for me. Slowly, I sit down on a bench, and continue to play Angry Birds. 

Am I distracting myself from the fact that I'm going to a brand new school with completely new people?

Am I?

These are the questions...

"WHY?!" 

I jump, and I look up and see a boy. Tall, had somewhat of a muscular frame. He seems like my age. I try not to stare as he is on the phone with someone, important from what I can gather. 

"What sense does that make, Jessica?!" He shouts, stopping, and standing next to the bench.

"Okay, okay, okay," He says, relaxing, "I just need this to work out perfectly, y'know? If I want her, I need to do some other things, okay? Sorry I yelled at you..." 

Suddenly, there's a pause, as he listens to his phone intently.

"Yeah, okay...so, we'll discuss this tomorrow?" He says, tiredly, while rubbing his brown hair of his face. "Okay, I'll talk to you later." He then hangs up his phone, sticking it into his pocket. I continue to stare at my phone, hoping he wouldn't maybe say hi or something.

Not that I don't want to talk to him, or anything, just I wouldn't know what to say after watching that just happen.

"People are so fucking stupid sometimes, you know that?" The boy says, turning to look at me. I glance up at him, and nod in agreement, "Preach..." He laughs a little, "Never heard that one before." I smile, "Honestly, me neither." He smiles again. "How rude of me," He says walking over, and sticking out his hand to shake mine, "I'm Justin." I hesitantly grab it, "Penelope."

He doesn't seem so bad, but there was something familiar about 'em...

I can't really put my finger on it though...

"Mind if I sit?" He asks, nodding his head over at the spot next to me on the bench. "Oh, no, not at all," I reply, nervously. I gesture for him to sit. "Thanks," He says, while walking over, and sitting next to me, "So, you new here?" I blush just a little, as I move my brown hair behind my ear, "Yeah. I moved from Miami, Florida." His eyes widen at my response, "Cool. Did you go to. Disneyland everyday?" I laugh a little, "No. That'd be weird." 

"Aww, that kinda sucks. I was hoping since you're from there, you could, like, get free tickets to Disneyland," He says, jokingly. I roll my eyes, smiling, "Welp, sorry, but that'd be a fat no. If that were the case, I would go every day." He chuckles a little, "Is that so?" 

"Very so. I'm pretty sure everyone in the world would come if Disneyland was free."

"Well, you gotta point there."

After 14 minutes of talking with Justin, the bus arrives. 

May I just say, we really hit it off!!!

It felt easy to just talk to him, and that's saying something seeing as I'm literally the worst as talking.

It feels nice to talk to someone who is around my age...

We then hop onto the bus, but I sit close to the front, while he walks to the back. I hear people shouting his name happily. 

"JUSTIN! GUESS WHO DA FUCK TEXTED ME?!?!"

"Please don't say Tyra. She's a mega whore if you hadn't noticed that already..."

So...he's a popular kid?

Was not expecting that.

The bus doors close, causing my anxiety to worsen. 

I stare out the window, as the bus drives away from my street. I gulp.
