Chapter 10- The mysterious man

Time passed very soon. It was almost dark outside. Lisa was waiting for Dr. Valentine inside the ward. Just then she received call from Carl Black. She quickly answered the call "Hello Mr. Black."

"Where are you? I came to pick you up but the door is locked."

She told him about her father's situation and she heard Carl Black to ask "Which hospital?"

"Bill Roth hospital."

"Ok."

After hanging up the call she turned around and looked at her mother and said "Mom tonight you go back home. I'll stay here."

"No, you are not going to stay here. You go and rest."

"Mom but.."

Suddenly the door pushed open by a young handsome doctor. He came inside, looked at them and said with a grin facing at Mark Holmes "Hello I am Dr Liam Valentine. How are you feeling Mr. Holmes?"

"I am good doctor."

"Very good. Let me check you."

Then Dr Valentine started checking Mark Holmes. After Checking he turned around to Lisa and Linda Holmes only to say "Ok, meet me at my chamber after half an hour."

With a sweet smile he waved them and left the ward. After half an hour Lisa was ready to go to meet Dr Valentine. She pushed open the door of ward and saw Carl Black who was about to open the door. His hand paused in mid air. His expression was unreadable. For few minutes there was an awkward silence between them.

Carl Black was the one who broke the silence first "How is uncle?"

"Um.. He is stable now. I am going to meet heart surgeon Dr Valentine."

"Ok, I'll go with you."

"Ok."

They both left together to meet Dr Valentine. When they reached at Dr Valentine's chamber they saw many patients, waiting for him. They sat down on the chairs kept on the waiting area and waited for their turn.

On the other side when Daniel Brooke parted with Lisa, he directly drove to his office. There his assistant was waiting impatiently for him.

When he saw Daniel Brooke he said hurriedly "Boss, I was waiting for you."

"Did you find out who is he?"

"Um... sorry Boss, he is a mystery for us. He switched off his phone immediately after he called me. I tracked down the number and it was registered in a fake ID. The call was from 'Y' city. This mystery man said that he has proof. But he is not willing to come to the court."

"I want to meet him."

"But boss it is too risky. We can't trust him. It may be a trap."

Daniel Brooke got angry. He glared at his assistant and said "Don't tell me what to do. Just try to find out more details about him and arrange to go to 'Y' city as soon as possible."

"But Boss ....."

"Enough, now go and back to the work."

Daniel Brooke was working on a high profile rape cum murder case. A girl was brutally raped and murdered by five men. Four of them were caught by police but now they were in bail. Forensic report matched the semen sample of the four men but the fifth person was still not identified. He just vanished in a thin air. Police couldn't find any information about him.

These four men were close friends of the Senator's son Albert Harrison. He was under suspicion but all the evidences showed that he was out of country that day when the girl was raped and murdered. Due to political pressure police even couldn't able to manage medical examination of Albert Harrison.

Daniel Brooke was very sure that the fifth person is none other than Albert Harrison but there was no evidence to prove it. The defense lawyer was very experienced and Daniel Brooke was not even able to stop the bail appeal of the four convicted men. He proved that these four men were mentally and physically not fit and they got bail easily. So when Daniel Brooke heard about new evidence, a hope appeared in this case and he wanted to cease every possible opportunity.

The person who contacted Henry August was not willing to disclose his identity. He was a mysterious man for them whose identity was covered in haze. This mysterious man knew if someone found out his identity he will be killed, so he wanted to meet Daniel Brooke personally to hand over the evidences and he asked him to come to meet him alone.

He left the city on the very next day of the murder and was living in exile for all these days. He was closely following this case, but when he saw that the murderers are not going to be punished he contacted Daniel Brooke's assistant.

Just as Henry August was about to leave the office Daniel Brooke suddenly asked "Did he say anything when he will call again?"

Henry August shook his head and said "No. But we track him down soon."

"Good."

Suddenly the door of the office swung open. They both looked at the door and stunned for few moments to see Thomas Brooke.

"Dad. What a surprise." Daniel Brooke sneered.

Thomas Brooke's expression was gloomy and said coldly "You have decided to not listen to me, aren't you?"

"This is a huge opportunity of my career."

He looked at his son coldly and said indifferently "You know very well who is involved in this case. You can't offend them. Just back off from this case and join my law firm."

"And you know very well that I am not going to do that."

Thomas Brooke glared at Daniel Brooke and raised his voice "Daniel...."

"I promise, on next hearing I'll turned down the table. I am going to win this case." Daniel Brooke said confidently.

Thomas Brooke was angered to death by his son. He slammed his fist hardly on the table and said angrily "Do you want to die? Or do you want your family to be killed?"

"I don't care. My only motive is to win this case and I am going to win this. No one can stop me. No one can come in the way of my dream, not even that Senator."

Thomas Brooke felt so helpless that he shook his head and said "This hunger of fame of yours will ruin you one day."

He turned around and left immediately after saying that.

Henry August who was standing quietly during this whole conversation said slowly "Boss, what to do now?"

"What? Book the flight ticket for city 'Y'. I want to fly to 'Y' city as soon as possible."

"Copy that Boss."

Henry August left the office as soon as he said those words.

In the hospital Lisa and Carl Black were waiting for their turn.

Carl Black looked at Lisa and said "Why didn't you call me yesterday?"

He was unhappy. When he heard about the heart attack of Mark Holmes he felt very uncomfortable because Lisa didn't inform him immediately. He expected that whenever she is in trouble he should be the first one to be informed. But all his dreams were shuttered by her. There were mixed feelings in his heart. He was feeling angry, annoyed, irritated and this made him very unhappy. Lisa and her mother were alone at the hospital last night. There was no one to help them. Thinking of this he was feeling sad for her. He was feeling more annoyed because she didn't inform him even in the morning. If he didn't come to pick her up for the dinner then may be he will never come to know about this.

Lisa felt embarrassed. She knew that he was angry so she said politely "Mr. Black I am sorry. At that time I was totally out of mind. Please don't feel bad."

Carl Black sighed and said "But what about today morning? If I didn't come to pick you up for dinner I'll never know about this."

He paused for few moments and said with a frown "Tell me honestly did you ever think to inform me?"

"I..."

She wanted to say something but couldn't find suitable words. She was aware of his questioning gaze. She lowered her head and kept quiet.

Carl Black closed his eyes, pressed his forehead with his hand and said coldly "I expected that you will inform me if anything happens around you. But..... Anyways, forget it. I think you still don't trust me enough."

"Mr. Black, please..."

He interrupted and said "It's ok. Don't worry. You take your time. I'll try my best to gain your trust and love."

They both waited quietly there. No one was willing to continue the conversation. There were different emotions in their mind. Both of them were not able to understand what the other person was thinking at that moment.
