Chapter 66 Affectionate Couple on the Surface

She had been wronged, so very wronged…

Natalie, who had never complained about life’s hardships for so many years, finally cracked. The feeling of wanting to cry out loud was extremely overbearing. Even though she held it back, she still felt the urge as that something about to burst out of her body.

Zoey rushed over at this moment. Seeing her trying so hard to hold back her tears, she said nothing and pulled her up the hospital’s rooftop.

She was still silent upon reaching the rooftop, and only quietly sat by her side for some time. She waited until Natalie recollected her emotions and was willing to speak, and gently patted her hand asking, “Do you feel better?”

“Yes!”

Zoey heaved a sigh of relief and asked, “What did the head of hospital say? Your complexion was so horrible that it scared me…”

“He wanted me to take a long vacation, at least until that patient discharge from the hospital.”

“Oh crap…”

Zoey has a rash temperament and was a classic example of a straightforward and blunt personality. She asked, “How did this happen?”

That’s right! How on earth did that happen?

Just half an hour ago, Natalie had been raging inside her heart incessantly and after calming down, she said, “I don’t blame him. This is the best option for the hospital from a management’s perspective.”

She was no Virgin Mary, and she did not really think that the head of hospital was not to be blamed. However, from a rational point of view, she empathized with the decision.

After all, sacrificing a pawn to save the queen would be the best way to deal with an emergency. Even though the decision was a cruel treatment to her, but whoever who was in the head of the hospital’s position would have probably done the same!

Therefore, she should not be faulting the head of the hospital and should blamed it on the ungrateful fat woman. However…

How could she not blame him?

Then again, so what if she found someone to blame for it? There was nothing she could do at all, and that frustrated her the most.

“But, you should not be faulted!”

“What else could I do if I’m this unlucky? I saved him yet I still got complained!”

Zoey felt sorry as well when she heard what she said. “If only Director Quinton was here. With him around, he’d probably stand up for you, and the head of hospital wouldn’t have asked you to take a long vacation.”

“He would not be able to help much even if he’s around…”

“Oh, don’t be so discouraged!”

Truth be told, they were already adults and working, and Zoey understood what Natalie meant. That said, even if the reality was cruel, she still wanted to comfort her best friend and so…

She clapped her hands, and her eyes gleamed. “How about I apply for two days off on the weekend. Then, you, me, and Howie go out and have some fun?”

“It’s the weekend! Do you think you’ll be able to get the days off?”

Zoey had a disapproving look on her face as she replied, “As long as you give them an awesome excuse, it’s not impossible as well!”

“It’s alright, I’m fine…”

“How are you fine? If I were you, I’d certainly have a row with that old woman.”

Zoey had always been this way. She never cared much about her own matters, but she would be very concerned with Natalie’s matters than Natalie herself.

Natalie would be easily influenced by her when they were together, and her mood would always pick itself back up as well. “If there was any use in fighting, I would have done it myself! But… Forget it. I’m going back now, so have a great day at work!”

“Do you think I’m in the mood to work with you like this?”

Natalie intentionally behaved in a relaxing manner. “Can you stop being so unprofessional? It’s just a vacation, and it’s not like I’m not coming back anymore…”

“But…”

Zoey still looked at her worriedly. However, she did not know what else she could say to persuade her. There was a moment of silence before she suddenly heard someone else coming up to the rooftop.

Her sharp ears almost simultaneously picked up Natalie’s name being mentioned by the women coming up.

She subconsciously glanced toward the direction from where the sound came from and immediately raised a finger to make a silent gesture. Then, she opened up her ears nervously…

“Woah! Have you guys heard that Natalie might get fired?”

“What? Fired? Why did I hear that she was asked to take administrative leave?”

“That’s just nicer on the ears. There’s no deadline for administrative leave. Once time passes by and they don’t request for her to come back to work, she’ll probably quit on her own!”

The three voices all sounded very familiar. Even though Zoey could only make out Janine’s voice from the last sentence, it was not difficult to guess who the other two voices belonged to.

Zoey almost immediately wanted to dash out, but Natalie managed to pull her back.

They heard the three women continued to gossip. “Is it because of the patient’s complaint? But, that’s not Dr. Snowden’s fault, right?”

“Whether or not it was her fault, it’s certainly hers now!”

“What do you mean?”

“First of all, the patient is Winters Corporation’s vice president, and he’s in charge of medical equipment sales. I heard that apart from the regular sales agreement that Winters Corporation has with Huahe, they also donate at least one million worth of consumables to the hospital every year!”

Janine spoke the most, and she would end her sentence with a cold sneer and supplement with another unpleasant comment. “That’s why! Do you think the head of hospital would offend that woman? The only thing he could do was force Natalie to take the heat.”

“But Dr. Snowden didn’t do anything wrong! Also, didn’t you hear at the banquet that day? Dr. Snowden is Master Winters’ wife! Isn’t that way more powerful than the vice president?”

“The vice president might not be that remarkable, but with Jessica adding fuel to the fire at the back, the whole ordeal would be very challenging to deal with.”

Having said that, Janine seemed extremely pleased. “I heard from Jessica that the relationship between Natalie and Master Winters is not that great. They just seemed like an affectionate couple on the surface. So, even if anything were to happen to her, Master Winters won’t necessarily care about it.”

“Is that true?”

“Of course it’s true. It’s just that you guys are still wanting to please that woman. Take me for example, I’ve always had a good relationship with Jessica, so I’ll just get stronger in the future…”

“You really are the smartest!”

“Hmph! A woman like that, just you wait and see! In a few days, Master Winters would get bored and dump her…”

Zoey puffed her face up and pushed away Natalie’s hand that was pulling on hers. She rushed out with a murderous gleam in her eyes. “Miss Franco, what did you just say?”

“Who are you? You…”

Janine did not know Zoey, but she recognized Natalie who was behind her. Her face flushed crimson red immediately. “You were eavesdropping on us?”

“Who’s eavesdropping on you? You guys were talking so loudly as if you were afraid that nobody could hear you, and you’re blaming us for that?”

“Humph! So what if you heard us? In any case, a stray mongrel is nothing to be afraid of.”

Zoey was fuming with rage. She stomped her feet and shrieked, “Who are you calling a stray mongrel?”

“Alright, Zoey. There’s no need to argue with her about these things…”

Natalie pulled her infuriated best friend away. She was calm but said coldly, “However, I will verify myself if what she said was true or not.”
