"Uh. I'm Isabelle. Isabelle Greene. I'm here for, uh, an interview," I stuttered.

"Oh," She said, eyeing my outfit again. "I thought you were the janitor's daughter." She arched her brow.

What the...?

"Oh, I'm not." I gnashed my teeth so hard, cheeks began to hurt and gave her a forced smile, knowing well to not get on the bad side of the people that work here. She slightly raised her brows and cowered down.

Good job girl. My subconscious fist-bumped me again, grinning like an idiot.

Mrs-Too-Much-Red raised wrist to her face and let out a frustrated sigh. Ahe rolled her roll and muttered something under her breath, that I couldn't catch seeing as we were a few feet apart, and she said out loud, "The interview said 8 AM and it is clearly still 7."

"I'm not blind or dense," I started and she mumbled something in disagreement. Okay, if this redhead was trying to tick me off, she was doing a great job, because that instant, I was ready to yank someone's head off of their shoulders. I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth. I took a deep breath and shut my eyes momentarily. Control, I told myself.

I opened my eyes and found Mrs. Red staring at me, amusement twinkling in her hazel eyes. At that point, I knew we both were never going to get along. When I toned down on my anger, I started, "Infact, I'm well aware-" I cut myself off because she tore her gaze from me and fixed her eyes to the glass door.

"Shit! He's here. Look blondie, go over to the couch over there-" she pointed to the couch that sat somewhere across the room "-and sit. Do not make a sound. He hates noise," She said. Her voice was shaky.

Before I could object to that or ask who this 'he' was, the glass door opened, and without even turning my head there, I could feel the power radiating from there. The hairs on my neck stood straight and I felt intimidated. My heart picked pace. I could hear blood thumping loudly in my ears. Mrs. Red stilled and she stood frozen, eyes on the door.

She could feel it too.

I turned my head and a gasp almost escaped my lips when my eyes met a handsome male creature. He wore a black Armani suit, white shirt, and red tie. His broad shoulders were straining in the Armani fabric. His face was sculptured. His jaw was sharp and very fresh, my fingers itched to rub them. His lips were... beautiful. Perfectly sculptured, thin, and pink. His nose was straight. His eyes were... gorgeous. Gray eyes stared at me, fringed with thick and dark lashes. His hair was golden brown and it was gelled to the back.

At that point, I stood dumbstruckk, literally drooling at the sight of the male Adonis.

He walked towards me, one hand in his pocket and the other swaying carelessly beside him. A man I didn't notice before, appeared by his side. Mr. Handsome looked over to Mrs. Red. He looked mad (not the regular mad, the furious mad), his upper lip curled over his sparkling white teeth in a sneer. On one fluid move, he snapped his finger and walked away, without acting like I wasn't there. He didn't spare me a glance at all and I felt invisible.

I heard a small gasp behind me and even without looking, I felt Mrs. Red's eyes widen. The beautiful male creature walked to the elevator that was at the other side of the lobby, which was three times bigger than my room at Kate's.

The other man that stood beside the male Adonis, waited behind and said, "Ms. Evans, you've just been fired."

My eyebrows practically flew off by face. Maybe I just don't have to put up with Mrs. Red

*

I stood there, still dumbfounded at what had just happened. After entering the elevator, though I really had no idea where I was going, I walked down the hall of buzzing employees. They didn't seem to notice a stranger wandering practically among them. I myself began to feel invisible Most of them had stern expressions on their faces and I did want another 'Mrs. Red' scene, so I didn't approach them. The least I wanted was scornful remarks and unnecessary glares.

I noticed a brunette that didn't have a stern expression by her desk and walked to her.

"Hi, do you um, know where the interviews are being held," I asked her.

"Oh hello, you're here for an interview right?" She looked up from her computer and smiled at me. Her smile wasn't like Mrs. Red's that was taunting and forced, it was warm and friendly.

"Uh, yeah." I cleared my throat. "I mean, yes. Yes, I am."

She chuckled. "It's all right. We all get nervous for interviews. Just go to the elevator and press the eighteenth-floor button." She gestured her hand towards the two elevators by the side of the hall.

I mumbled a quick thanks and walked towards the elevators.

I wonder why there are two elevators.

Doing a quick eenie-minnie-mannie-moe, I chose the right-hand side elevator. Pressing the open button, I stepped inside. Inside the elevator, there was only one button and it had letters IT on it, so I guessed that the letters were short for INTERVIEW so, I pressed the button and the elevator ascended.

The doors opened to an office. It was two times the size of the reception. The office was plush. The walls were cream. The office was just like a sitting room except that it was missing a TV. The couches in the office were shining white. My hands itched to touch them. There was a desk, it was shining brown and behind it was the male Adonis that I met earlier.

I stopped breathing as his eyes were boring into mine. His gray eyes studied me as if it saw all my secrets. I shuddered and walked towards him.

Is he the one taking the interview?

My knees almost bucked underneath me as I took each step forward. Even a few feet far from him, I could smell his cologne. I clutched on my small bag, holding it like my life depended on it.

"What do you want?" he questioned with so much power, in a thick and deep voice. I wanted to cower and run away. I shuddered again and my subconsciou screamed at me, Run you fool, but my legs kept walking.

Stupid legs.

"I- I'm Isabelle Gr-Greene," I stammered and gulped in. "I'm here for an interview."

"Who let you in?" He asked, power oozing off him.

"Hmm, who let you in?" I blurted out and placed my hand over my mouth.

Stupid mouth.

He raised his brows, clearly surprised at my outburst. He picked the telephone beside him and dialed a number. "Who was on duty at seven thirty-eight...? Tell Derrick he's fired."

I gasped and he looked over to me in a swift glance and curled his upper lip in a sneer.

"I'm just going to, you know, go for the interview," I said, walking back to the elevator.

"Miss Greene," He said and I turned around. "Pass me your resume."

"I just knew he was the one interviewing me," I mumbled mumbled myself and fist-bumped my subconscious. She was busy doing her happy dances.

I walked back to him and took a seat in front of him and searched my bag.

Hmm, makeup, tissue paper, pen, notepad, hand sanitizer, cellphone, and... my resume. I sighed as I brought it out and handed it over to him.

He collected and looked through it. "Hmm, schooled in Swilver High, NYU. Good grades. Graduated last month. Hmm," He mumbled to himself, flipping through the pages of the resume. "If I saw this earlier on, I would have definitely not hired you-" he said and m lips pulled to a frown. "-this company is about technology. You majored in business and last time I checked, it does not match. You don't have the right qualifications, not of the post you came to be interviewed for. But I know the post that would suit you. My secretary."

"What?" I knitted my eyebrows together. I had to process all that he said in my head before I gave him an answer. "But the post applied for was-"

"Secretary or not-" he cut me off.

"Take it or get out of my office," he said to me again, after a moment of silence passed.

"Yes," I said and he arched an eyebrow. "I mean, yes sir." I made sure to lay enough emphasis on 'sir' "I would be your secretary."

Marry me   Chapter twenty-three

I couldn't sleep.I didn't know whether it was because that I was mildly insomniac, or that my room was freezing cold, or maybe because my bed was harder, way harder than the normal, average bed needed for normal people to sleep in.I had a feeling it was because of all three.Groaning a little louder than needed and successfully managing to sound like a female gorilla during labor, I rolled over to the extreme edge of the bed only to roll back to my previous position. I wiggled my hips deep into the bed trying to find a way to make my stone-hard bed somewhat comfortable to my behind.Goosebumps trailed over my arms as I sat up straight and rested my back on the rock-hard headboard of my rock-hard bed. And somehow, it felt like the headboard was less hard than the bed itself. I wrapped the night robe of my silk nightdress tighter around me and shoved my legs deeper into my thick, soft comforter. The pad

Marry me   Chapter twenty-two

(a/n: the last chapter was a bit too long so I divided it into two)*"What?" I repeatedHe had turned fully to me at this point and his head was slightly tilted to the right. "I believe I said that quite audibly enough for the human ear."I blinked once, then twice, and again till I lost count. My mouth opened as if it had a mind of its own, not before my brain picked up and commanded it to slam shut again. "I- I don't know what to say.""Great," he said. "Then, don't say anything at all. Are you done now?" He eyed my dumbfounded expression for a while before adding, "The plan was to have a quiet ceremony, but since you decided to experiment and called in the media, I decided that you'll bear any additional impromptu cost by having your

Marry me   Chapter twenty-one

(A/N: I owe you guys this <3)*I made a stupid mistake of trying to look up while trying to get out of the limo. I tripped air and my own wedding dress, stumbled, and plunged straight to the ground. I braced myself for the impact but something incredible happened. It never came.It took a few moments for it to dawn on me that two bony arms had wrapped around me to avoid me from kissing the ground. I fluttered my eyelids closed and forced out a breath."I'm sorry, ma'am," Jonas' voice resounded in my ears as the two skinny arms pulled me up to standing position. His ears were tinged with a little hint of pink and he avoided my eyes.I stared at him weirdly, wondering how those skinny arms could pull me up so easily. I pulled my undone hair away from my eyes with another breath escaping my mouth. "Thank you," I told him sincerely with a smile. He smiled back and stooped low to pick

Marry me   Chapter twenty

(Author's Note: hey. Sorry for the delay. I had to go back to school and my school's like a boarding school, you know? Some students in my school caught covid and it had to be shut down. But the main thing is that I'm back, yay!)*My facial muscles had already started to cramp from smiling too hard at well-wishers and my eardrums were wearied of hearing the same words over and over again: 'I wish you both a happy married life with a lot of children.' 'You should be the couple of the year!''Ah, you look so cute together.'The last one had me choking on air. If only cute could mean me wanting to strangle him.Crystal had become a lot more suspicious after witnessing the whole scene Mr. Asshole and I pulled off

Marry me   Chapter nineteen [Part three]

The rest of the ceremony went by in a breeze and I didn't actually pay much of my attention to whatever the hell the officiant said throughout the ceremony because I was focused on calming my nerves. The ceremony wasn't that long and soon enough, it was time for the most dreaded part of the wedding (at least it was dreaded for me): The vows."Do you, Ivan Trevelyan, take, Isabelle Kimberly Greene, as your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, fit or fat, for the rest of your life?"Silence.I raised my gaze to look at him, his face was taut and expressionless. He looked bored. I felt a flicker of hope in my chest. Please change your mind, please change your mind, please change your mind. The Jamaican officiant cleared his throat awkwardly again. "I said-""Is this really necessary?

Marry me   Chapter nineteen [Part two]

I turned the shower knob counterclockwise and the little strings of warm water drizzling from the showerhead ceased to exist. The unsettling feeling in my stomach increased as I padded out of the bathroom with a fluffy just-laundered towel wrapped around my body and a smaller one around my head. I strolled into the hotel suite and shuddered a little at the drastic temperature change even though it was nothing I couldn't handle. Kate was right in the middle of the hotel room when I walked out. Her arms were folded across her chest, her eyebrow was cocked high, and her gaze was unmoving from me. She wasn't there when I went to have a shower is my immediate guess was that she walked in while I was in the bathroom.I eyed her posture suspiciously and gave her a look. "Hey," I said, unsure about why she was standing statuesque in the middle of the room staring lik

Marry me   Chapter eighteen [Part three]

My eyelids twitched and a deeper frown pulled on my lips. With my peripheral vision, I noticed a figure a few feet beside us; a woman with short jet black hair in a dark blood red dress that literally swept the floor around her. Something looked off about her, and it looked like she was

Marry me   Chapter eighteen [Part two]

I eyed his palm warily for a few seconds before letting my eyes slide lazily to his face. His facial expression was unreadable, no surprise there though, and his grey eyes were looking pointedly at something else. I crinkled my eyebrows together and tilted my head to the side, following

Marry me   Chapter seventeen

"Oh my God. Would someone please get the fucking door?" I heard Kate holler to no one in particular from the kitchen. The doorbell rang again and Kate let out a string of profanities that could for sure, make a sailor blush. Another clattering sound of metal
