Chapter 2

“It’s her, she’s the one, my promised one,” Henry thought but couldn’t move a muscle. He just stared in her eyes just like she stared in his. Warm brown pools took him by surprise and caused a storm in his head and rapid beating of his heart.

His instincts were telling him to grab her fast and just run to his lair but the last bits of his rational mind knew better. He had to be careful not to make a scene.

He slightly coughed and apologized offering to buy her a new coffee and to take care of her stained clothes but she refused both of them with a look of annoyance on her face, went around him and down the street, and every step took her further and further away from him, from his embrace. He still stood in the same place where she left him just watching after her until he realized that if he doesn’t move he will lose her and he couldn’t afford that, not now when he finally found her.

So he started walking after her making sure not to lose her from his sight until he did lose her. Panicking, he started turning around till he caught a glim of her inside a building with a big glass door heading towards what seemed like the elevator.

“So this must be where she works…” a small smile crept on his face. Across the street, he noticed a restaurant and he headed towards it not caring about the traffic. Horns screamed at him and tires squeaked but he didn’t care. He had only one goal in front of him and that was a free table next to the window of the restaurant so that he could watch the entrance of the building across the road.

“Good morning sir. How may I help you?” the hostess asked him politely.

“Table by the window, please.”

“Of course”

The hostess lead him to one of the tables and he hurried to take a seat not noticing the lustful looks she was giving him. At any other moment he would, he was used to them. He knew how women reacted to his appearance, but now he couldn’t think about anything else than his promised one.

“Your waiter will be here shortly to take your order.” the hostess said but Henry ignored her.

He spent his day looking at the “Brooks publishing” waiting to see her again. His hopes grew around the time of lunch but she never came out. That worried him, would she eat anything? Won’t she be hungry? What is she doing?

Henry set there thinking about her, bout her eyes, about her hair, and how sun rays were reflecting on her soft locks. He thought about their future and the times that they will spend together. He thought about how it will feel when they hugged when they kissed…

His mobile phone rang and snapped him out of his thoughts.

“Hey big bro, where are you? What’s up?” cheerful voice of his sister Sarah whistled.

“Oh nothing special, you know, just sitting in a restaurant and stalking my mate” Henry tried to sound carefree but his voice gave him away cause it was filled with happiness.

“Whaaaat?!! Did you find her? Oh my God! What is she like? Tell me everything! Oh, wait it is she, right? What is her name” Sarah blabbered without stop happy for her brother. He was the only one in their family without a mate and they all prayed for him, worried about his lifestyle that was becoming dangerously revealing for their kind.

“Slow down missy” Henry laughed “I don’t know her name, I don’t know anything about her except where she works and I’m..” but he didn’t get a chance t finish his sentence because his sister interrupted him again.

“Oh, you clumsy creature! I can’t believe it!…”

“Sis, I’ve got to go! Talk to you later.” not giving her a chance to continue her speech he hung up the phone. He didn’t want any distractions. He had to keep an eye on those doors.

It was past 5 o’clock when he saw her leaving her workplace with another girl around the same age as her. He quickly pulled up his wallet to pay his bill for the whole day of eating and drinking in one spot and headed out. He saw his mate waving goodbye to her colleague as they parted ways. This time he was more careful in crossing the street not wanting to cause a commotion and draw attention to himself. He thought that the best course of action, for now, was to stay unnoticed.

Henry followed his mate for a couple of blocks until she arrived at her building he presumed. The entrance door was locked but that won’t be a problem he thought. Now that he knew where she lives more importantly that she exists at all, nothing will ever be a problem.
