11.Increasing experience
Devil_queenThe incident in Sector 13, a few standard weeks earlier
Commander Franak ToÖren was suddenly startled from his vain self-observation - he was standing in front of the large screen with reflector function that filled a wall of his private room. The reflector showed a tall, broad-shouldered man in the nicely cut Federation Patrol uniform with long, wavy, blond hair and a thick, light, well-groomed beard - his reflection filled him with deep satisfaction. Then the alarm sounded - a hideous, up and down signal, the screen turned milky for a moment and then gained depth again, but behind the screen there was no longer an image of the room in which it was standing; the background was much larger and equipped with windows that looked out into a rolling landscape, so almost inevitably showed a sea beach. There, apparently two meters away from him, stood a slender, dark-haired man - Avatar actually - in a bland gray suit, a paradox, a kind of civilian military clothing. The man came closer, stepped sideways past him and through the surface of the screen as if it didn't exist. He stayed entirely in Franak's private room, exactly at the distance that he found comfortable.
“Well, Nadar. What's the noise? ”Franak spoke in a tone of superiority, of master, although the Avatar, of course, had no military rank.
“Commander SeFrin wants to see you, sir! She passed the alarm on to us. Will you take the call? ”
Franak knew that this was just a polite phrase. With such an urgent contact, it was impossible to refuse. "Of course!" He replied. A curvy, long-legged, long-haired blonde appeared abruptly in the mirror room, gazing at him deeply and confidently through long eyelashes with large, blue eyes with half-down lids. She was wearing a feminine version of his own uniform.
“Commander SeFrin, I assume”, Franak remarked impressed, “well, what's so urgent?”
“Commander ToÖren, we receive a call for help,” she answered in a soft voice, “a signal from sector 13. We are the patrol that is closest to the source of the call. He apparently comes from the mining planet Yssar. Two standard days ago, the central station was attacked by a squadron of a pirate who calls himself the 'Morning Star'. At least that's what the head of the ward said shortly before personal contact broke off. Only the automatic help signal was sent on for a while. It is possible that there are no more survivors.
Anyway , this planet belongs to the Federation and it is our job to free it! " " Of course, "Franak agreed," Commander SeFrin ... "
" Araissa ... "
" Well ... Araissa, I'll help you Of course, if necessary. ”
“ It is, Commander ... ”
He hesitated only briefly:“ Franak, call me Franak. ”
“ We assume that both the pirate ship and the station are manned ... Franak. We must therefore attack both at the same time, as we can hardly surprise the pirates. Do you have experience in such missions? ”
“ Yes, yes! ”Franak lied to impress her.
"Excellent!" She smiled at him in amusement. What amused her so much remained hidden from Franak. "Then we'll meet in the orbit of Yssar - in ...", she hesitated and probably looked at a screen that Franak could not see, "... about two days. She smiled at him again, then she was gone. Franak stared for a while at the spot where the seductive woman had been seen a moment ago. He found that he was already looking forward to seeing Araissa again and even more looking forward to meeting her in person. This meeting would bring some life to the boring everyday life of a patrol commander, he hoped. The upcoming military action was also gratifying. He was confident of victory, did not seriously expect losses and had absolutely no doubt that he in particular would get away with it. He was confident and young. Nothing could harm him except boredom.
Franak left his cabin and headed for the command room. As he knew, he would meet the entire crew of the "Dakmatar" there, because the statutes of the patrol service stipulated that in the event of an alarm - alert level 3: urgent action without immediate danger to the ship - the crew had to gather in the control room. The crew consisted of eight "men", four of whom were women. In addition, of course, there was Nadar, the avatar, the operating system of the ship's computer and actually the only one who was needed to control the “Dakmatar”, a medium-sized patrol ship. The crew of experts not only served for emergencies - which was not so unlikely in armed conflict - but also for contacts with people who were too diverse to be mastered even by the best software. Such a contact was now imminent, pirates had to be captured or even eliminated, if possible without harming the miners - if they were still alive. Araissa had spoken of a squadron, so the pirates would be outnumbered.
Franak entered the headquarters and seven heads turned to him. He paid particular attention to Sitha, a racy dark-haired woman who beamed at him. His interest in her went beyond professional matters. Unfortunately, she was of the opinion that one must strictly separate business and private matters.
“What's up?” She asked.
"A pirate attack on a mining planet," he replied.
A broad-shouldered, short man next to her replied: “Something new.” That was it, because in the past eight years the “Dakmatar” had mainly had to settle interplanetary trade disputes. A saber rattle had been enough to calm the warring parties. Blood had occasionally flowed, but members of the patrol had never been physically attacked. Franak's service had started in the center of the Federation and more and more - with increasing experience - shifted towards the periphery. His team was good, excellent in fact, he was convinced of that and would probably also be able to deal with attackers from outside the Federation. Still, it was a first.
“Yes,” he confirmed, “it may well be that this time the rockets will fly around our ears and that we will have to kill. I think we are prepared for it! This will be our first real mission and I have no doubt about the success of our mission. ”

Dark Goddess Mad
She nodded gratefully and lowered herself carefully - mobilizing her last reserves - down the steep wall. Only in the rough rock of the chimney did she feel safe. Gjefren was also exhausted and tried to really concentrate on every move on the descent. Finally they stood in front of the two warriors and Gjefren was now very impressed both by their stature and by their elaborately crafted black armor. The one who fell first lay there like a carelessly discarded giant doll, destroyed. The other had no obvious wounds."Amazing that you could escape such warriors!" Gjefren looked at her respectfully.“My jump over the bridge was an act of desperation. The alternatives would have been imprisonment and endless agony in the torture chambers of Askhauran. The witch never left me in doubt about that. Drowning or a skullhit on a rock would have been comparatively merciful. ” Gjefren turned away and wanted to go to the camp when suddenly life came into one of the supposed cor

The men seemed to be good climbers, because Gjefren heard loud breathing noises and the occasional gasp but no swearing. Much earlier than expected, he saw a large, hairy hand reach over the edge of the ledge. Nonetheless, he reacted instantly and smashed the big stone at the tarantula-like thing. The hand was withdrawn immediately and Gjefren heard an angry and surprised cry. Then he sat up, lifting the chunk over his head, looked over the edge, looked into the guardsman's ugly face, and let the rock crash down on the man's head. He lost his footing, screamed again and fell down, waving his arms and obviously trying to land legs first, but he couldn't. Gjefren would never forget the expression on his face or the sound of the hitting body. The second pursuer, who now threatened loudly, had been able to hold on, a fact Gjefren had not planned for. The man began to climb down hastily, but Gjefren had already reached for another, much larger rock, lifted it with difficulty, and t

Then he saw a glaring flash in the distance and realized almost immediately that the sun was reflected in a helmet. Immediately he took cover behind the bushes that grew on the edge of the plateau. Athaly paused for a moment to then follow his example. "What is it, are they coming?""I saw a light reflex up there." He pointed in the appropriate direction. "I think so."She stared hard and whispered. "Can you make out how many there are?" Gjefren shook his head. “I don't think there's any point in hiding,” she said. “They'll look for my body and won't rest until they find it and bring it back. Or take me prisoner again. They belong to the witch's guard and they know exactly what will happen to them if they return without me. ”“ Which witch? ”He wanted to know.“The witch of Askhauran! She is famous for her cruelty. Nobody knows where she comes from, but rumor has it that she killed the old ruling couple and bewitc

"Athaly. Yes, horses are much faster, at least if the ground isn't too rocky. Horses are not that good at carrying loads, so it might be a good thing that you have a donkey as a companion. ”She looked briefly into space, then seemed to have made up her mind. “Gjefren, there is no point. If they see you with me, they will kill you! Maybe even the donkey, you don't know. I will stay here and wait for her and you will ride further downstream. Hopefully when I'm dead they'll turn around, then you're in no danger! ”Gjefren pretended to be indignant, but was astonished that she was so interested in the fate of a complete stranger. He looked angrily at her. "You don't think I'll let you down!"Athaly nodded. "But! You have to do it. Each of them is a head taller than you and broader shouldered, and the witch is sure to send more than one man after me. You wouldn't even have a chance if you are very practiced in combat. ”She eyed him intently, especially skeptically his u

She still looked confused, but also amused. “Then please thank your Lord on my behalf. By the way, he's not a horse but a donkey. ”“ Not a horse? Then I was betrayed! ”Although Gjefren had no idea what a donkey was usually used for, he thought angrily back to the scene in Merida when it had become the target of general ridicule. He could have been informed of his error. His father could have described these mounts more precisely! Then he would have saved himself so many embarrassments! "Are you sure?"She coughed a little. "Mmm. Definitely. ”And after a short pause:“ Your hair. ”“ What about it? ”“ It shines. Shimmer! ”Involuntarily he grabbed his head. He couldn't forget to put on his leather hood like he had done in Merida. She waited for an answer, but when none came she raised her head to look around and saw her dress. Her eyes, whose lids were half-mast before, widened. He had the impression that her hands were quickly feeling her body under the cover

After a short rummage he found what he was looking for and ran back, holding the opened object in front of her mouth. He put his head next to hers and looked at the reflecting surface, saw that it was fogging up. Well. Pulse. He pressed his index and middle fingers to the side of his neck before it occurred to him that you couldn't breathe without a heartbeat and that this action was pointless. Still, it was very comforting to feel him very slow and weak. So the main problem was hypothermia. He brought the mirror back, got his only fluffy blanket and two towels. He spread the blanket over the flat rock, warm from the sunshine, on which he had previously sat. Then he undid the three buttons on the front of the dress and peeled them off the cold, wet thing by pulling it down over his shoulders. Then he opened her sandals and took them off. Meanwhile, her eyelids moved a little, otherwise she remained passive like a doll.Gjefren took one of the towels and used it

Anwin replied with a neutrality - almost cold - in his voice that he could not feel. On the contrary, he had never been so upset in his life. “Rassek told me a lot, for example, about the fact that the gift - the curse - of healing must run in the family. You inherit them. But my father doesn't h

“Anyway,” continued the giant, “I'll register with my master”. He walked quickly to the door, past the poor pile of slaves, and yanked it open. Anwin could see the child kneeling by the side of SiVender's bedstead give a violent shock. Ubandor walked over to him, took his thin upper arm and pulle
Dark Goddess Chamber
Anwin took a deep breath and tried to remember what Ubandor had told him about this room. Somewhere on the wall there had to be an inconspicuous door that opened into a small chamber. It housed cleaning utensils. He looked towards the wall and soon found what he was looking for. If you knew the d

“You murdered him, the fugitive slave. Not with your own hands, not that. You handed him over and betrayed him after you learned we'd talked. How ever you succeeded. "An evil grin appeared on Rassek's face. “This should teach you what happens when you try to escape my control! We never tal
