Chapter 002

Regina Young dragged her exhausted body that was tormented the whole night and left the hotel. The moment she pushed open her house door, a commotion was heard.

“Mommy, I don’t want to be arrested! Sobs! I don’t want to!”

“Don’t cry now. Mommy will find a way out!”

Ruby Young was drenched in tears. Panic and unsettledness were written all over her face.

Regina Young’s eyes met with her stepmother, Patricia Yalden’s eyes as she lifted her head. A darkened expression slowly replaced the dread in her eyes.

Patricia turned toward her baby girl, Ruby Young, with a disgruntled expression. “Look, the culprit has returned. Is there any more need for tears?”

Before Regina could figure out their puzzling gestures, a heavy, tight slap had landed on her face, sending her to collapse in a heap.

“You b*tch! How dare you come home! You just rammed into someone with your car. It was a hit-and-run at that! Our Young family has no such despicable daughter as you! Call the police!”

Regina held onto her freshly slapped face and replied in disbelief, “What do you mean?”

“Why are you still stunned there, Ruby? Quick report to the police! Let the police take her away!”

Ruby came to her senses immediately. Her face sparkled with exhilaration. She wiped her tears away and said, “Big Sis, why did you drink and drive? You’ve just killed someone, did you know that? You better surrender now!”

Regina was bewildered at her words. She shouted, perplexed, “Surrender? I don’t understand what you’re talking about! I didn't do it!”

When the police arrived, Regina’s chaotic mind finally understood what they were trying to do. She screamed, “No! It was not me! I didn’t do it! I didn’t kill anyone while driving!”

Patricia stepped forward, and with an empathetic tone, said to Regina, “Regina, you’re still young. You should confess your wrongdoings and not try to run away from them.”

Patricia’s back was facing the police as she threw an evil glare at Regina.

She nonchalantly pinched Regina’s arm. Regina was suffering from indescribable pain.

Between her biological daughter and stepdaughter, Patricia did not have to think twice to sacrifice Regina.

Regina was drowning in panic. She desperately tried to explain to the police that she did not kill the person. Yet, when she was asked of her whereabouts that night, she could only hang her head. Her words were hesitant and unclear.

She was raped. How could she tell them that! She did not want to rip another person’s life apart!

Regina seethed in anger, thinking about the night she was raped. It was all because of that glass of wine. The two delinquents almost kidnapped her after she had that wine.

That glass of wine… was given to her by Ruby!

Regina abruptly figured something out and was about to ask a question.

However, Patricia snatched that opportunity away from her. “Sigh. I had a bad inkling when you did not return home the whole night. I almost went into a heart attack. Fortunately, Ruby was there to take care of me. Regina, Mommy does not expect much from you. I just hope that you don’t try to escape from the law. You reek of alcohol and yet you still want to frame someone else? I’m truly disappointed in you.”

Patricia had put on the perfect act of a caring, sympathetic mother.

Regina smelling like alcohol combined with Patricia’s testimony, had her tongue-tied. She was immediately led away in handcuffs.

While the police car left with its wailing sirens, another fleet of cars stopped in front of the Young family’s residence.

The car door opened, and a gentleman in his fifties clad in a suit stepped out of the car and knocked on their door.

Patricia had not recovered from the previous shock. She opened the door and asked, “Who are you?”

“Good day to you. I’m the housekeeper of the Xavier family, Mr. Zachary. I’m here on the orders of Young Master. May I ask if your daughter is home?”

Patricia’s heart was thumping in nervousness. “What do you want?”

“Our Young Master wishes to take your daughter’s hand in marriage. I suppose you lost this precious item?”

Mr. Zachary was holding onto the address keychain with both his hands.

Patricia immediately recognized that this was Regina’s address keychain. There was a pendant attached to it. It was given to Regina after that woman had died.

“Who’s your Young Master?”

“Clark Xavier, the president of Xavier Corporation.”

Patricia understood the situation in that instant. Her breathing pace quickened.

The Xavier family!

The family with one of the highest status in the capital. Furthermore, Clark Xavier was the president of their main corporation! He was worth hundreds of billions!

“Clark Xavier wishes to marry my daughter?”
