She lowered her eyes on her cup of coffee as her thumbs circle the lid. ''My job was all I have left after my boyfriend broke up with me and it was one of my weakest days, I guess.'' She smiled bitterly before continuing. ''At least I get to say my three wishes, right?''

The night went on like that, me asking her a few questions and her answering those questions truthfully and curving her answers into a funny stunt.

Ren was funny, smart, sweet and easy to talk to. Who knew that we can be like this, friends. Yeah, I think we're friends.

The next morning in Milan, I was greeted with the smell of sweet English breakfast as I walked out of my room. Ren was roaming around the kitchen, too busy to realize that I was already watching her. She was wearing a black fitted jeans, black and white striped dress shirt and her hair was tied untidily above her hair. She wasn't wearing any shoes and I like the view of her bare feet in the kitchen with that pink apron around her waist.

''Good morning'' I greeted her and that was the only time she turned to face me.

She gave me a sweet smile ''good morning, Sir.'' She winced a little and I was worried that she might get herself burned on that stove but she masked it quickly. ''Coffee?'' she masked the pain I saw quickly so I just nodded at her as I took a seat on the stool.

''You didn't have to cook breakfast, Ren. We can order downstairs'' I narrated as she placed a plate in front of me. Bacon, eggs, toast, fried tomatoes, sausages and she even had baked beans on the plate. It was definitely a lot of work to make this breakfast.

She took her seat across me ''I like home cooked meals and besides, we need the energy today, Right?''

Should I smile? Her smile was so sweet. Fuck it. I smiled in return ''I might get used to this, Ms. Green.'' I teased her and I watched as light crimson color crawled up her cheeks.

She was blushing and I liked watching her blush. She took a sip of her coffee to hide her face from me but the smile I had on wasn't going away. Cute.

We met everyone in the lobby and Ren wrapped her arms around Ms. Brooks and my sister's arm as soon as we hopped to the car we rented as our service to the site. The three girls were talking about clubbing tonight and I can see that Ren wasn't so into clubbing.

''Dev?'' Eve asked me.

''What?'' I lift my gaze from my phone and my sister scowl.

''Are you joining us?''

''No'' she knows I hate loud places.

''Pooper'' she murmured.

I didn't bother to respond to her, she was always like that since we were younger, pain in my ass.

We arrived at the site and the site engineer under Evan's company gave us the tour. Everything was going smoothly as planned and the hotel would be up and running before the year ends.

The day went on as planned and the girls went out in the evening with Evan. My best friend would never miss any chance to get laid, especially in a different country. People wonder why Evan and I are best friends because our personality differs in many ways but what they didn't know was that Evan and I once hated each other's gut.

Ren left a note on the fridge that she went out with everyone and the suit felt too huge for me without her. That girl is growing on me and I had to stop myself from giving her a space in my life. She's just my employee.

I was awakened in my slumber when I heard a loud thud outside my bedroom. Giggling followed that sound and I listened closely to hear if it was Ren. She might be drunk. The giggling continued for a few minutes and when I heard the front door closed, I sighed and tried to go back to sleep.

There was another thump, as if something fell on the floor, I groaned as I stood up and checked the time on my watch. Twelve thirty fucking a.m.

It was quiet outside when I stepped out of my room and I guess Ren made it safely to her bed. I took a glass of water from the kitchen and was about to head back to my room when my eyes caught a silhouette from the balcony. I knew it was Ren. I practically memorized her body from that beach, creep.

She was sitting on the couch, she wasn't asleep because her nose was buried on her phone.

''Ren'' I spoke but she didn't look up but I know she heard me because she stiffened a little. ''Why are you still up?'' she didn't speak but she wiped her cheek with the back of her hand. ''Why are you crying?'' She was still quiet as I took a seat beside her.

She wiped her face again but this time, she leaned on my shoulders and I froze. Her forehead was resting on my shoulder and I can feel the wetness from her tears drenching the sleeve of my white shirt.

''Who did this to you?''

''No one'' she sniffed. ''I'm such a loser. Why can't I be someone special?''

''You are special'' I patted her hand which was resting on her thighs. ''What made you think you aren't special?''

She was quiet for a while, as if she was thinking deeply. ''He chose her over me and the sad part is, they are happy now and I'm not.''

''Is it your boyfriend?'' I tried to decipher who she was talking about.

''Ex'' she let out a sour laugh. ''Thank you for taking me back, Devin.'' She lifted her head from resting on my shoulder and the shy light of the moon lit up her face. Her green eyes sparkle with tears. ''You're all that I have now.'' I was surprised on her next move. Her lips met my cheek, lingering there for a few seconds before she stood up and left me flabbergasted.
