Chapter 177 Why Don’t You Get Back Together With Him

Author: Breeze Blowing Fallen Leaves
Inside the ward.

The moment Charles closed the door, he let go of Sophia and staggered to the side of the chair. His good-looking face was pale, and his breathing sounded slightly rapid and shallow.

Sophia stood close to the door as she watched his blood trickle down his palm before dripping to the ground. The crimson liquid was soaking his patient’s attire bit by bit. She remained still and silent.

Charles raised his head and glanced at her, his eyes dimming a little. He pursed his lips and pressed the emergency button in front of the hospital bed.

Doctor Conor hurried over with two nurses in no time.

When she saw Sophia sitting on the hospital bed looking perfectly fine, Dr. Conor’s expression turned slightly sullen. He cast her a sidelong glance and asked, "What happened to you this time?"

"It's not her, it's me," Charles said with a mild look on his face as he clutched the wound on his lower abdomen.

This was Sophia’s ward, so Doctor Conor subconsciously thought that something was wrong with her. It was only when Charles spoke did he realize that Charles’ patient’s attire was stained with a lot of blood and that there was also a pool of blood on the floor. It was a ghastly sight to behold.

"A traumatic injury?" Doctor Conor asked.

Charles hummed a response. "It has been stitched up. May have opened up again."

"Why didn’t you press the emergency button in your ward then? Can a pulmonary edema and orthopedic patient share the same doctor as a trauma patient? This is plain nonsense!" Doctor Conor was puffing and glaring at Charles as he chastised him.

Charles' lips might look pale, but he sounded as though he was perfectly fine. "I won’t die."

"!" For Doctor Conor, annoying things happened every day, though there were especially many today. He turned his head and screamed at the two nurses behind him, "Hurry up and call Dr. John. Ask him to get here immediately!"

The nurse responded and made the call at once.

Another doctor glanced at his phone and said to Dr. Conor, "Dr. Conor, we’ve got a problem in Ward 612. They need you to go over.”

"Why are you still standing around? Let's go!" Doctor Conor pushed his glasses and hurried away without even bothering to take a look at Charles and Sophia.

Immediately after Doctor Conor left, Dr. John rushed over, panting and out of breath. He ordered the nurse standing behind him to open up the medicine kit and had just picked up the anesthetic needle when he put it back again. "Mr. Harris, you d-don’t n-need this, right?"

"I need it." Charles glanced at Sophia whose eyes were downcast. He was unsure what she was thinking about. He said, "I can’t stand it anymore. It’s too painful."

With that, he would have a reason to stay a little longer at her ward.

Dr. John had no choice but to take out the anesthetic needle again. Then, he asked him to take off his shirt and started treating his wounds.

Sitting on the hospital bed, Sophia raised her eyes and darted a cursory glance at him. There were several stitches on his lower abdomen. Currently, the wound looked badly mangled, making it look particularly grim.

She frowned, not because she was worried about his injury, but because she was worried about her brother. The wound was deep and looked pretty serious. She did not know if Charles would make things difficult for her brother because of it…

"Mr. Harris, I told you to rest in bed and stay still because your wound is very deep and serious. Why didn’t you listen?"

"The wound on the palm of your hand came from hitting a sharp surface, right? Otherwise, it wouldn’t even look so serious! Also, you need to take my advice seriously. I’m not kidding when I say that your life may be in danger if there’s laceration in the wound in your abdomen!”

Dr. John nagged ceaselessly when he was almost done stitching up his wounds.

Charles did not say a word and was only glancing at Sophia. When he noticed how nonchalant she looked, his heart felt slightly stuffy and painful at the same time.

“Dr. John, excuse me, but was there anyone at the door when you came in?" Sophia felt uncomfortable from the glances that Charles was darting her from time to time. She looked at Dr. John and asked.

Dr. John replied, "There are often people walking in the corridor. Who are you referring to?"

"Was there a woman in a wheelchair?" Sophia asked.

Dr. John shook his head. "I didn't see her."

Sophia stood up straight away, then held the wall for support. She walked out with some difficulty.

"Where are you going?" Charles asked with a frown.

Sophia turned back to glance at him, tugged at her lips, and continued to trudge outside. "I was just casually saying that we have gotten back together. You can’t have taken it seriously, can you?"

Seeing that this involved the personal matter between the two and it was one that did not look quite pleasant either, Dr. John and the two nurses were placed in a slightly awkward position as they tried their best to diminish their sense of existence.

"Stay here with me and I won’t give your brother trouble for stabbing me," Charles said.

Sophia had already reached the door. She paused for a moment when she heard what he said. Then, she held the wall and chairs for support again before walking back to the hospital bed with a sullen look on her face.

There seemed to be no room for her to strike back when she was in front of Charles.

The atmosphere in the ward was really quite bad that it even felt somewhat stifling and stalemated. After treating his wounds, Dr. John reminded him to take several other precautions and left with the two nurses in a hurry without wasting any more time.

Beep.

Beep.

The moment the door closed, the vibration of a phone was heard.

Sophia glanced at the caller ID and picked up the call.

Megan’s voice came from the other end. "Are you still in the same ward? I made you some soup."

"Mmhmm." Sophia hung up the call. Having Megan around was better than being alone with Charles.

Four or five minutes later, Megan knocked on the door and walked in. She called out to Sophia and was just about to say something excitedly when she swallowed everything in her throat the moment she saw Charles lying on the escort bed on the other side.

"Hello, Mr. Harris." Megan greeted cautiously.

Charles hummed a response.

The ward fell silent again. It felt as though the air was gradually condensing into ice, freezing everyone in the room. It was extremely difficult to even breathe or move.

"Ben Raymond has been coming to me these days asking to get back together. I was busy avoiding him, that’s why I only came and see you today. You don’t blame me, right?" The overly silent environment made every cell in Megan’s body taut. She mustered up her courage and broke the silence with a whisper.

"I don’t." Sophia paused, trying her best to act as though Charles, who was lying on the bed next to her, was nonexistent. "Are you... planning to get back together with him?"

If she did not love that man anymore, she would ask the guards in Dream Club to drive Ben out instead of avoiding him.

Megan let out a self-deprecating laugh and leaned closer to Sophia, whispering, "I guess I’m a fool. I still can't forget him. However, reconciliation is out of the question. It will never happen."

"If you can't forget him, why don’t you get back together with him then?" Charles could not move his body, but he could talk.

Megan was startled by his sudden question. After a very long time, she answered in a trembling voice, "He has done a lot of things that let me down, so I... I don't want to get back together with him."

"If you don’t get back together with him, wouldn’t you feel uncomfortable thinking about him all the time?" Charles directed the question at Megan but was looking at Sophia instead.

Megan figured that he was not directing the question at her, hence she knew better than to answer the question. Like him, she turned to look at Sophia instead.

"I do know her, but we’re not very close," Yvette said.Sophia wanted to ask her what kind of person Madam Johnson was but did not know how to start. In fact, it would be even more appropriate for her to ask her mother this question. However, her mother’s current situation had made it difficult for her to ask her too much.Yvette could roughly guess what she was trying to ask her about and took the initiative to say, "Objectively speaking, Madam Johnson is a marriage intruder. Her reputation isn’t very good either as she’s a little vain and small-minded. She, however, is your mom’s college roommate, so she’s very nice to your mother.""Thanks for telling me that, Aunt Harris," Sophia said."You don’t have to be so reserved with me, my child." Yvette took her hand and pointed in Madam Johnson’s direction. "She's over there. Let’s go and meet her."It would be inappropriate for Charles to go over as there were only women over there, hence he did not go with them.Madam Johnson, lik

Things might not get so awkward if they had just pretended that they did not know each other. As soon as William said those words, however, there was instantly an awkward and slightly stalemated air hanging around the conversation.Audrey's expression changed unpredictably. Her gaze that drifted toward Sophia was immensely dark and gloomy.Taking all of this in, Charles shifted a few steps whilst keeping his countenance, standing diagonally in front of Sophia, blocking her off from William and Audrey’s line of vision.Stunned for a moment, Mr. Robertson smiled and said, "Who wasn’t frivolous when they were young? It's normal to have several crushes, ex-boyfriends, ex-girlfriends, and whatnot. I even wrote a love letter to the prettiest girl in my class secretly when I was in high school…"He was clearly helping William out of the embarrassing situation.Sophia was slightly surprised when she saw this. She was surprised to learn that William actually shared such a close relationshi

Upon hearing Marie’s name, Fredrickson followed his gaze and looked over. When he saw Marie standing next to a man wearing a sweet smile on her face, pressing her chest firmly against his, his expression turned dark at once."See you later!" Fredrickson said in a haste and walked aggressively toward Marie with champagne in his hand. There were many beautiful women there, but Marie was the most attractive woman amongst them. Regardless of men or women, almost everyone was attracted to her the moment they laid eyes on her.Sophia asked, "Mr. Fredrickson and Ms. Marie...""A lover and sponsor relationship." Charles took a sip of his champagne. "Some people may think that they have everything in control, but the truth is, they have lost their hearts to someone else a long time ago."On the other side of the room, Fredrickson walked over, said something to the man, then dragged Marie out showing no due respect for the other party’s feelings.Marie struggled for a while and that seemed

“Serves him right. He’s always getting fresh with the ladies! He must have offended someone he shouldn’t have offended this time that’s why someone has decided to fix him!"Jeffrey Hoffman was the handsome-looking but perverted male employee. When they saw Sophia, they stopped talking and greeted her."I'm just an ordinary employee. You don't need to be so polite to me." Sophia smiled at them and entered the elevator.Leah must be the person who fixed Jeffrey. He had just taken advantage of her this afternoon and she was already retaliating like a whirlwind.Charles was right. Leah was already experiencing a mental breakdown. In the afternoon, Sophia went to meet a major client with Maisie. The next day, according to Maisie’s arrangement, she learned some basics on the teller system from a teller whose last name was Logan. When it was time for her to get off work, Charles came to pick her up for the party.Sophia was taken aback when she saw him. Leah bit her lip and looked at him, the last gleam of light in her eyes vanished, and was now enshrouded by a layer of shimmering water. She had always thought that she was different from Sophia. She knew how to adapt to her circumstances and knew when to advance and when to retreat. Sophia was different. She was nothing but a profligate second-generation daughter who knew nothing and considered for no one.Today, however, she finally learned that she was actually no different from Sophia. When she became a burden, everyone would simply abandon her without hesitation.Master Lewis ignored her. He raised his voice and asked everybody, "Have all of you learned a lesson from this?"No one said anything. He then repeated the question a few more times, stopping only after they answered him."Grandpa, you claim that I have turned out this way because of a man and even warned everyone about it. What about you? Aren’t you also putting your reputation on the line for a woman..."Before Le

He also said that he won’t recognize Leah as his sister anymore! Dad, say, do you think he will present the entire Jones Group as a gift for Sophia soon?"Tiffany curled her lips at her words and said while stroking her belly, "William is nothing but a fool. Not only was he tricked by a cripple, but he was also bewitched by a little b*tch that he had lost all sense of direction. Just look at what kind of son you have raised!""Shut your mouth.
