The Golden Egg

~In a garden with a sweet scent of roses and a bright sun, a little girl was chasing a tiny white rabbit playfully. She kept running around a fountain to get closer to the rabbit, but the fluffy bunny was always a way ahead of her. No matter how hard she ran, she failed to catch the creature every time. Seeing that her effort was for naught, she sat down on the grass with teary eyes. She was about to cry, but then a taller boy came close to her and patted her head with a smile.~

Argh...

"My head hurts!" Creed was still groggy from his 10-hours of sleep. "These pills are a crucial lifesaver, but the headache is a pain in the ass!"

"And why do I keep seeing this dream? Every time I go to deep-sleep, those two just pop up in my mind."

"Do I know them from somewhere, childhood friends maybe? mhm, I don't think so! I have to ask mom about this, maybe she knows something about this  weird dream!"

"Crap! the egg!" Creed missed a heartbeat.

He checked his pockets. Realizing the fact that the golden egg was still there gave him relief.

He picked himself from the ground, stumbled a little before gaining balance. He glanced at his surroundings. It was already dark, but he had a heart of steel. Unless it was a genuine threat, he would not get scared easily.

He ripped the sleeves of his shirt and covered his nose. The foul stench around his body was making it almost impossible to think. Right now he was 3 km away from his Camp. He wanted to return so he could clean himself as soon as possible.

"So let's see, I am in the north-east direction of the inner circle from camp but there is 'Cascade forest' in-between, so if I take that path, though it would only take around 25-min,  beasts would probably swallow me in the middle, so let's not do that!"

Creed gazed at the ominous sky for a while, then started running in a particular direction without hesitation, which obviously was a roundabout way back to his camp. He sprinted, stopping nowhere until he reached back to his camp. He saw many people on his way back, but they all kept his distance.

The horrible stench couldn’t escape the noses of the nearby people.  They all gave him a peculiar look and kept their distance.

"Hahaha,"

"The freak is stinking so bad," A guy said to his friend. "Did he shat himself or something?"

"How would I know, man? He probably went inside a tablet!" Another guy said with a mocking smile. "I guess he is still trying his luck."

"He is a fucking pest, couldn't even fully open his root chakra after an entire year!" The first guy complained. "Not even the rookies are such a disappointment."

"You think I give a rat's ass about his talent?" The second guy responded with an envious look. "What makes me bash my d*ck into the wall is that our lieutenant favors him. So the guy somehow survives in this wretched place."

"If not for her authority, the 'four-sisters' would have chewed him millennials ago."

"Seriously, what does she see in him? I am way taller and muscular. I hit the gym daily just to get a little attention from her," The first guy snorted dejectedly. "But it's like she is made of steel when other guys try to approach her. Maybe she is into weak guys."

"Moron! Are you crack?" The second guy was furious now. "You think anyone is stronger than her inside this camp's borders? What a joke!"

"Then Blackmail maybe?"

"Stop making assumptions, you IQ less faggot. You think an authority, as high as her is a hoax?" The second guy snapped at his friend. "She has enough arms to remove the traces of anyone she wants!"

The second guy added after a thought. "I say it's her righteous nature, she knows how others treat him outside, maybe that's why she feels sympathy for him."

While the others were talking about him and some so-called 'lieutenant'. Creed reached his camp headquarter to register his time of return and findings from scouting. Then he went straight to the lieutenant-colonel cabin to report his return.

"Lieutenant-colonel sir! Cadet Creed Gryffon reporting his safe return to the base!" Creed said in a restrained grunt.

"Holy mother of... Creed, you punk!" The Lieutenant's face contorted into disgust from the lingering stench.

"How many times do I have to tell you? I don't think of you as my soldier. So you don't have to act like one and report to me every fucking time. Especially not when you are smelling like nothing but a biochemical weapon!"

Lieutenant gestured him to leave. "You are dismissed, now leave and take a bath."

"Lieutenant! I don't appreciate being treated as a free-loader. I am a soldier here either you accept it or not and I will fulfill my duties! I will take my leave now." Said Creed and left the room, not waiting for her reply.

"Grisha, why do you even keep him here given how weak he is?" An 18-year-old woman beside her bellowed angrily. "Can’t you see how less he respects you even though you have helped him so much?"

"You should just label him as 'UNFIT' and release him from his duties!"

This woman was actually the secretary of Lieutenant Grisha as well as her childhood friend. Her name was Alia Barnes.

"Yeah, I definitely can, but I won't!" Grisha Responded.

"Is it because--"

Grisha interrupted her Alia in the middle. "Didn't you noticed the subtle limping? He might have gotten himself injured in the leg, probably his left calf. My point is, he is a fighter. He might not be able to fight alongside us, but he is definitely fighting within himself."

Grisha added. "And I like his spirit. As for his behavior, it's not like he does not respect me, he just doesn't care about buttering his superior."

"I disagree! And I think he is probably a waste of resources," Alia insulted him with a grumpy pout."And you shouldn’t secretly provide him the resources from your share either."

Alia rumbled. "I think they would have their worth settled if we used them on you, and not him! Stuck on his root chakra for an entire year! Such a waste!"

"Don't worry, Alia. We are always short of resources. Cut him some slack for me, would you? And you have other matters to focus gorgeous, just help him in need sometimes, he is a dutiful man!"

Grisha changed the topic. "Give me the documents on the federation decision on the bar, for the selection of new candidates inside the Bhu-lok."

While Grisha and Alia were discussing in the cabin, Creed without wasting a second went to his quarter- 0523. He turned on the lights of his room, removed his clothes, and went straight for the bath.

After he cleaned himself, he changed into his spare clothes and gathered his gains from the tablet and put them on his table along with his personal dagger.

"Now, let's see what kind of egg is this and why the hell were they worshipping this thing?"

"Is this an egg of some other alpha beast?" Creed was astonished.

He started reminiscing about what happened inside the tablet -

This was a well-known fact for every person who went inside the elder's tablet. The spot where the walls get mushy and tender is where one needs to drill through. The walls inside an elder's tablet were releasing corrosive fumes.

The corrosive atmosphere in various parts of the glitch was the reason that people needed to have their chakra points open. This energy-flow through the chakras made humans stronger. The number of open chakra-points determined the strength of a human.

With Creed, he had none of them fully opened so he was practically walking in the pool of acid. He went inside the cut he made in the wall, bearing the burning pain all over his body. Then started walking again to search for another squishy wall along the way.

He had to repeat the same process three more times to reach what he guessed to be the core of the tablet.

This was the first time Creed had seen a tablet so desolate and quiet. It was the common fact that many powerful creatures live inside the tablet and protect its core. But it was so peaceful it made his stomach turn in anxiety.

Now he understood why this tablet was restricted for lower-level cadets, but he had no choice this time. The guys outside had snatched his precious ring, which was his last present from his dad before his death. He had no choice but to risk his life this time.

He desperately needed his ring back also for its high value for money as an antique. He had made a tough decision to sell it to a broker as his family needed money urgently. But they had snatched it before he even had the chance to sell it. Thinking this while walking made him even more determined.

He cut the wall again and put his first leg inside. Immediately he realized that the floor he was walking on, did not exist on the other side of the vertical tear. As a result, he lost his balance and slipped inside the dark hole.

He landed on his buttocks; the pain made him realize that he wasn’t dead yet. Though he had reached the core of the tablet. But what he saw next made him almost wet his pants.

A large horde of beasts with a body of half-snake and half-woman were all making slithering noises and staring at him with bewilderment, all around him. He then realized that the thing he landed on was a large stone altar which had a crucified snake-woman at its center.

The state of the crucified victim did not look good. Several parts of her body had turned dark blue. While she also had a hint of fright in her eyes, a golden light was hovering over the crucified snake-woman. The entire scene looked like some kind of strange sacrificial ceremony.

Before Creed could do anything, all the beasts from the audience got riled up and started running towards the altar with murder in their eyes. There was nowhere he could run. He assumed this was his last breath, but he still pulled the dagger from his bag.

The beast from the horde ganged up on him, scratching him with claws and teeth to wreck him into pieces. In mere seconds, his skin was sliced up from several places and was hanging loosely. Several ribs were shattered as well.

His body was already close to breaking, blood gushed out from the claw marks. Though he stabbed a few beasts with his dagger, it was a pointless struggle. He was losing blood quickly after some time. Even standing became an impossible task for him.

Suddenly, for some strange reason, his body felt light and warm. He observed that he was being pulled in front of the golden light. He didn’t know what was going on until he realized that he was floating right in front of the crucified snake-woman. They both were facing each other now.

The hung snake-women looked pale and had teary eyes. She was struggling a lot with whatever strength she could muster, but couldn't break free from the nails that had bounded her body. She also had dried-blood patches on the bounded parts of her body.

Sign of critical asphyxiation hinted they had crucified the snake-woman for more than a day. While Creed was floating close to her, they both looked at each other with dimmed eyes. He didn't understand what was happening to him, but his instincts told him that this golden orb was something special and now his last lifeline.

He extended his hand and tried to grab it, but he halted abruptly. Then he bent forward and pulled up his pant-sleeve to the knee. He pushed the dagger inside his left calf and cut-open a wound and pulled out an amulet carefully.

He didn't feel as much pain since the urgency of saving his life distracted him. This was a spare amulet from another elder's tablet he saved as his backup, just in case of an emergency.

He then grabbed the orb without giving it any more thought. The very next moment he vanished from the core of the tablet and appeared back in the tunnel.

He knew all the creatures were assembled in the core area and will come looking for him soon. The golden egg had lost its golden glow, now looked like an ordinary gold egg. Creed put the egg inside his wound while quickly closing the wound with an ointment from his bag.

Then he started running back to the tablet entrance. he ran as fast as possible, limping, staggering, and falling. His body was releasing adrenaline like crazy. The pain in his leg was like a thousand needles poked at once, he felt so much pain that his senses went numb.

After dragging himself inside a never-ending tunnel, soon there was a semi-transparent wall visible at the end which looked like a gate to heaven.

'The Exit' bloodied, he gasped.

"Fuck, that was so close!"

"Miss Jia, we have a problem!" Bonnie woke her up. "We need to go right now!""What? What happened?" Jia's facial expression turned grim. "Did some beast attacked?""We have no time to explain," Bonnie interjected and suggested to not waste any time. "Pack your bags, we need to leave this place..."Jia couldn't back her curiosity and bolted out of the tent and saw a strange scene, a pair of hideous legs that were pinned in the ground. They weren't dead and kept moving, twitching and convulsing violently. The hideous nature of the beast churned their stomach upside down. She almost puked after seeing the shape and appearance of the pair of legs, they were the very definition of gross. Though they looked like human legs, the green and red puss flowing out of stabbed feet told her it wasn't."WHAT THE HELL?" Jia turned at them. "What is all this?""Why haven't you packed yet, Miss Jia!" Frankie shouted and hinted to her not to waste time. "Just

A petite girl with a face as delicate as cotton and mesmerizing bangs came out from the teleportation gate in a gorgeous pantsuit. Her looks were enough to get the undivided attention of many young ones nearby. This girl appeared to just 16 or 17 years old. A man approached her and shook hands with her."Hello, Miss Jia!" Bernard greeted her as she came out from the teleportation gate."I have already made the arrangements, please follow me!""Listen, Bernard ... I am not coming with you, just give me a map or something!" Jia had curiousness written all over her face. She kept gazing at nearby buildings. "I've already convinced my dad to cancel every arrangement regarding the bodyguards! I am going to explore this place alone now...""Hmm... Mister Liang never informed me anything about this!" Bernard looked at her with a smile. He wasn't that easy to fool. "Sorry Miss Jia, but we need to abide by the rules your father has set.""Tch, pest!" She clicked he

Inside an enormous villa, just below a massive chandelier, a gracious dining table was glimmering. Baskets were full of exquisite and rare fruits. Dishes, glasses, and plates arranged in such a gracious arrangement even the symmetry itself would blush. A person in a black blazer was standing beside the table. He appeared like a designated conductor of an orchestra, except he wasn't one. He kept looking at his watch until it vibrated. The next moment a bald man with a distinguishable gray beard and blue track-suit, who appeared to be in his 50s, came towards the dining table. The butler came close to the main-chair and graciously pulled it backward for this man."Good Morning Master Collins.""Morning! where is Jake?" He sat and tucked a napkin in his collar. "Call him.""Master Jake is still in his room, sir," The Butler informed his employer. "He and others will be here for breakfast soon."The bald person was no other but Jake's grandfather, Auth

After the party, Jake dropped him back to planet Zerg. Creed was still dressed up in a suit and he wanted so change to his normal clothes. He went back home and tiptoed quietly around the house to avoid waking his mom as it was already early morning, then he changed back to his casual clothes.Creed realized that things like parties are not really his style. Entire-time during the party, he felt self-conscious around so many people. He looked at the clock, both the needles pointed near 6, it was already morning. He wanted to get some sleep since he was still a little shaky after traveling through hyper gates for the very first time back and forth. He went back to his room and took a 2-hour nap. It was already past 8 am; he made breakfast for his mom. Another fact that Creed was an excellent cook; he learned to cook in school as a hobby and found he had a knack for it, so today he planned to surprise his mom by making her breakfast."I really love it when you coo

'winner takes all' kind of bet," Creed shot a mocking scowl at them. "We can wager anything you want, and if I lose, I'll apologize to all of you and will also pay for everything I ate or drank here...""Sure, what are we betting on?" Arrogance was dripping from Jim's face."I don't want to make it complex for you clowns..." Creed smiled at them, and took a sip again, "Let's play rock, paper, and scissors.""Are you kidding me? That's like playtime for 2nd-grade children—" Nisha interrupted in the middle."shh... let me complete first..." Creed puts a finger on his lips

"You told her what?" Creed held Jake's collar."What are you angry for?" Jake looked the other way with a pompous grin, "I told her that a guy from the top-ranked team is my best friend."Creed's face turned red with anger. "Did you also tell her about my weak chakra saturation?""No, I didn't". Sweats appeared on his forehead like he was caught guilty."You bastard! You only told her half-truth," Creed asked her in a grumpy tone, "Why did you boast about me in front of her? ""Why shouldn't I boast about it?" Jake turned bashful this time. "I am really proud that my best friend is in the top-ranked team.""Fuck you! Don't try to fool me. I have known you for an entire...You intentionally pulled me into this by bragging without restraint, didn't you?""Come on dude, help your brother just this once.
