The King

It's been 5 months since I came with my father. So far my new life here is nice. I made some good friends, Maxmillan, orphelia, Amber. All my friends except Amber and I are trainee Wolf's. They want to become the royal guards. Both of them came from different packs.

Amber belongs to the royal pack, which contains all the council members and the pack advisers who are much older than his highness. She is beautiful and soft spoken unlike my other two friends.

Li is a firecracker and Max is a prankster. 

Li came from another pack. She is a wolf like most of the shifters in the royal pack. Her father is a beta in his pack. She has an elder brother who is their next beta. She is so passionate and straightforward.

Max kinda is from this pack that is the royal pack. I don't know the details, he is not exactly forthcoming with that information and I don't have the habit of prying in to other peoples personal lives.

The royal guards give protection to all the packs in need and solve any issues faced by the alpha's. They have 50,000 royal guards stationed at different packs for the safety of the pack and to prevent conflicts between packs and from other supernaturals. All the Alpha's report to his highness and the royal guards report to my father.

Amber is the daughter of one of the council members. She is so sweet and shy. Me and Li met in the training arena. She and max turned out to be my trainers. My father suggested, it would be good for me to get to know the wolf culture and train to defend myself if I find myself alone and in trouble.

Me and Amber became so close. She educates me on everything I need to know to blend in. The history, hierarchy, about the packs and the Alphas everything.

She became a sister to me, who always has my back and royal to the core. With Amber what you get is what you see.

She is a kind person who cannot harm anyone.

I remember the day when my father introduced us. She is as shy as i am.

"Go on, show my daughter around Amber" my father said.

"Yes commander" she agreed instantly.

We walked around the pack for twenty minutes in which neither of us said anything. I guess i should break the ice.

"Hey" we said in union and laughed at the coincident.

"I am sorry you got stuck with me" i said while kicking a rock.

"No no, its not like that, i dont know how to start a conversation. I am sorry if i made you feel that way" she apolozised as well.

We laugh together, and she showed me around the pack.

"No one knows where his Highness came from. One day the previous king bought his Higness along with him. I don't know what happened back then. I heard it from my father who himself was young at that time. After discussing with the council members then, the old King Anounced His Highness Darius as the new king of the shifters. No one understood his decion of favouring an outsider when we had so many capable Alphas in the kingdom. Everyone protested, but in vain. The old king then said, 'if any of the Shifters could defeat Darius, then they can become a king'. He only gave that chance to show them, how powerful our King Darius is. So many Alphas tries and failed. No one can even, give him a small scratch." Amber said in one of our walks.

"Hmm" i made a sound to encourage her to continue.

"No one ever saw him shift in to his animal form. For a shifter, they are capable to use their full power only in their animal form, but even in the one on one combats for the king position, he never shifted. The only time when he shifted was when he was being attached in the middle of the night by a wolf shifter. Then he semi shifted, he shifted in to a kind of a demon, with horns, tail and black eyes with specks of orange in them" amber stopped as if she is imagining him with horns and a tail.

"How do you guys know that it is his semi shift?" i ask the question that popped inside my head.

"Because, his highness dragged the shifter out of the Mansion in his wolf form, which i am telling you is not an easy feat. Then he roared loudly waking all the pack members. He said in a deadly voice 'you cannot even handle my semi shift form. What would happen if i unleash my animal upon you? don't you dare to attempt this kind of trachery again. If it repeats, then none of you will like the out come' he said in a deadly voice, which made grown shifters shake with fear. He then threw that shifted away. He is the only sifter who died because he angered our king. Our King usually is fair and a kind man" she finished with a dreamy sigh.

I smile at the memory. Currently i am sitting in my room reading a book on shifters.

"Hey Thea"

Before I get a chance to look at him, Max lifts me up on his shoulder and starts to run outside my room towards the main entrance of the Mansion.

"MAX... Put me down..!!!" I order him mortified.

of course, he doesn't listen, instead he laughs it off like I am joking.

Everyone is staring at us and I am So embarrassed to say the least.

"What the hell Max! why are you kidnapping me"? I know I am a book worm, but this is too much.

"If I tell you, I am sure you wouldn't come. So we planned like this" he said amused. 

"And where is it that you are taking me?" I enquire annoyed.

"His highness came back from his tour"

"so.. " I ask him confused.

King Darius Atticus left a month ago to solve some conflict between a pack and the local vampires. I saw him once from behind when he killed a bear shifter for violating the laws of the shifters. The shifter killed a human woman. 

All the shapeshifters come under his rule. They are bear shifters and panthers as well. But they just have a pack each. Their population is less compared to the wolfs.

That's the last time I saw him and I would like to keep it that way.

He is not cruel like I read in so many articles back home. In fact he is a good king, who rules with an iron fist to protect the shifters as well as the humans.

"So.. let's introduce our nerd to the king" Max said excitedly.

"You know I don't want to meet him. And how do you plan to introduce me?" he always does things on impulse.

"Simple, I will throw you at him." he laughs like a maniac.

"Max. " I yell at him horrified.

He laughs even louder.

"Don't worry dear nerd, I will show him from afar" 

I sigh.. as the worry leaves me. It's not like l don't like the guy. In fact I feel this weird pull to approach him and hug him and forget about everything else. It's weird and embarrassing. So I never shared this little tid bit with anyone.

My opinion on him changed so much after I came here. He is not at all what people claimed him to be. 

He is a good person. Till now I never spoke to him, I didn't even saw his face, apparently today it's going to change.Max dropped me on the ground when we reached Amber and Li. Both of them are watching the gates expectantly. We are near the main entrance of the mansion and if his highness comes, he has to pass by us to get inside.

"You really did it" Li exclaimed and laughed out loud. Soon Max joined her as well. Amber gave an amused smile, while I on the other hand glared at them all.

"Yay," Max did a happy dance which made us all laugh at his antiques.

Just then we heard the gates being opened and came 3 SUVs all black. I am standing between Amber and Max. 

Max is acting like a child in the carnival. He idolizes his highness, More than anyone I recalled till now. He talks to his highness whenever the opportunity presents itself and then raves about it for ages. 

All the people get down from their respective vehicles. I notice my father got down from the first vehicle and opens the back door. 

And then He comes out. From my vantage point, I can only see his side profile.

His features are so prominent and outstanding. He is over 6'5 height. I am tall for a girl, but in front of him, my 5'8 seems to be tiny.

Amber, Li, and Max all of them are wolfs. I am the only human in our Little group.

He has black hair and his sunglasses hide his beautiful grey eyes.

Suddenly something flashes in my peripheral vision. When I turn my head, I notice a man heading towards His highness, with what seems to be a knife. It's a silver knife. With the aggressive look on his face, his intentions don't seem to be Noble. There's anger and hatred in his gaze and it is directed towards His highness. If he succeeded in his intentions, it might hurt his highness badly. It might not kill him though.

Without thinking about what I am doing I run towards his highness and shield his body with mine just seconds before the knife piercing into my stomach.

I can hear Max yelling my name. The last thing I see is the face of the man who managed to pull me towards him, without a single word or a glance.

Am I imagining it or is he really panicked? and then everything turns blank.

I woke up to the sound of beeping.

It's so annoying. My body hurts and I am sleepy. My head feels heavy.

And then I slip into my sleep.

The next time I wake up to the noise of Max and Li.

They are talking, no they seem to be arguing about something. Then I slip again.

The next time I wake up into this immense pull of something asking me to wake up and look at him. So I do and imagine my surprise when I wake up and stare at the grey eyes looking at me with concern. 

What is he doing in here? 

And then I slip again.
