The next morning the sun had awakened, and the Lenovo smart clock on the desk next to the bed ticks. Jackson tossed on the mattress to avoid the irritating noise from his alarm clock. He did not want to wake up from the bed. His heart still hurts from last night's incident. And what he desires is to stay in bed and not have to go out.

He did not want to explain himself to his best friend. Who always notices when he's depressed. However, what he is experiencing is worse than depression. It is a heartbreak without the breakup part. Who could have guessed that he would spend his anniversary mobbing and alone in bed? Jennie messed up his entire plan. Yet, it is not strange to him. She has been canceling on him for the past eleven months.

The clock stops ringing abruptly, and he closes his eyes. He nearly fell asleep, but it screeched. "It's six O'clock!"

Jackson woke up and yelled at his alarm, "I am awake, you idiot!" Then he laughed at himself, "whom am I kidding? I am the idiot," He uttered.

Jackson left his bed, and when about his regular morning routines. He did a ten-minute exercise, brushed his teeth, took a cold bath, bandaged his wound, got dressed, and headed downstairs for breakfast.

It was unnecessary to prepare extra food because of the leftovers from last night. He sat at the table and set up to eat. Suddenly his eyes caught a glare at his watch. And time was not in his interest, Jackson needed to gobble his food or he would arrive late at his job. Jackson sipped his coffee and took a huge spoonful of his breakfast.

The wind was intense outside when Jackson came out the door; the snowflakes falling from the sky rested on his coat while he locked the gate to his house.

"Good day Mr. David, is it fine to invite you over for brunch at our bakery?" Mrs. Harper asked.

She stood at the front of the shop as though she had been expecting him to arrive.

"I do not mind, but I can not prolong my time because I will be late for work." He answered her as he advanced to the bakery door.

"You should not bother, we won't use up your time, come in please," she responded and accompanied him inside the shop.

The colorful tablecloths and fresh pastries scent regularly make the shop enchanting. But the real magic is Mr. Harper. His appearance seemed frown every time he bakes, but his pastries are tasty.

Jackson has visited the bakery various times. Yet this time it seems unusual. When he walked into the shop, the mood changed. Mr. Harper jostles a young woman to serve Mr. David. Jackson observes quietly.

He thought she was beautiful and attractive. Her full rosy lips, curly dark hair, and brownish skin had the bakery crammed with gentlemen aspiring to pursue her. She walked up to Jackson and placed a tray full of Harper's signature donuts on the table.

"Thanks, what's your name?" Jackson asked her.

"Julie and what happened to your finger?" she replied with a cute but wary smile that got him to grin.

"I cut myself, guess men do not know their way around knives. Mrs. Harper, I see you have a new waitress, and she is modest." He stated in his humorous tone.

Mr. Harper giggled and notified him that Julie was his Preston graduate daughter.

"She is more intimate with books than gentlemen. Although he wishes she would take an interest in a fellow, she is an adult. Settling down with someone ought to be on her mind, but Julie is stubborn as a mule," he explained to Jackson.

Julie did not utter a word, but Jackson understood her parents' behavior embarrassed her.

Mrs. Harper addressed Jackson. "How is your wife?" she asked, tapping her hand on his shoulder.

"My wife is splendid, and she will arrive home tonight. If there is no more to discuss, can I please have my donut package to bring with me to work? Is that okay with you, Mrs. Harper?" He replied. Jackson did not appreciate the awkwardness in the room, and he thought it's best to leave earlier.

"That is not a problem. Julie, please package Mr. David donuts," she told her daughter with a smirk.

"Sure!" Julie replied, taking the donuts and leaving in haste.

Mr. Harper observed how Jackson gazed at Julie with compassion. "Don't pay attention to her bashful approaches, that is her personality since she was a child. Can I ask you for a favor?" Mr. Harper said.

"As long as it is within my principles I can grant it." He explained to Mr. Harper and stared him in the eye to show his sincerity.

"We have lived next to each other for five years, and we recognize that you are a decent man who respects his wife and has dignity for himself. That shows that your male friends have outstanding characters, you have heard of the statement that birds of the same feathers fly together. Therefore, whenever you are available to hang out, please take Julie with you to meet a decent person like yourself." Mr. Harper pleads with Jackson.

At that moment, Julie arrived with the donut package, "What are you people discussing?" Julie asked, looking at their suspicious faces.

"Nothing serious, your parents asked me to do something for them, and I guarantee them when I have the opportunity I will fulfill their request," Jackson told her.

He turned to Mrs. Harper, "since there is nothing different, I beg to take my leave," he said and left the bakery.

"What did you ask of him?" Julie asked her parents.

"Nothing,"  they replied mutually.

"Well, since that is the case, I am going upstairs to resume my job search. Please do not distract me again with useless matters. I have suffered enough humiliation from you guys." Julie told her parents and went upstairs.

A Lie Away From You   You broke me

"Triplets?" Chris shouted as he drove into the hospital parking lot. He was almost at the hospital when he got a call from doctor Christina. The moment he answered, she told him the news. "Yes, Mr. Ash. Miya is pregnant with triplets for your friend Jackson." Christina's voice echoed through the phone speaker. "That's good!" Chris said with excitement. "Mr. Ash, not to be disrespectful, but I don't think this situation is good. Miya is happy about this news because she believes that the kids belong to her husband. Yet I am deceiving her." "Then what should we do? Tell her the truth and have her abort the kids or go through with your original plan? However, these two plans end with these children dying, and that's not what we want. Right, Doc?" "Yes, Mr. Ash." "Okay! Since we are on the same page. I will be awaiting more updates from you."

A Lie Away From You   Triplets

"Hello, Dr. Christina." Miya softly utters when she enters the doctor's office before shutting the door. Christina smiled and signaled her to take a seat, so she approached the desk and sat down in the chair. "How are you doing today, Miya?" Christina asked as she stared at Miya with gentle eyes. "Except for my boobs feeling sore, me regularly feeling tired, the morning sickness, me having vivid and strange dreams, the stomach cramps, me developing an uncanny sense of smell, and all the other thing that comes with being pregnant, I am doing pretty well today, doc. Thank you for asking." Miya said with a jovial expression. "Haha, the joy of entering motherhood. Where is your husband?" Dr. Christina asked when she noticed that Miya was alone. "Ho, he's waiting in the car. Lucas is not a big fan of hospital smells, so I told him to stay in the car." Miya said as she tried to force a

Lucas pulled over and stopped in the hospital parking lot. Then he rested back against his seat. "Are you not coming in?" Miya asked when she saw Lucas closing his eyes. She knew that the answer to her question was clear, yet she still had a bit of hope that she would get a different response. "Why should I come inside? I am not the one pregnant." Lucas replied with his eyes still shut. "But Dr. Christina told me the other day over the phone that she will be performing an ultrasound today. Don't you want to see the kid?" Miya said as she tried to sound calm even though she was getting pretty upset inside. "I will see it when it comes out. It's not even completely formed yet, so what's the point of seeing it?" Lucas stated with less care in his words and more arrogance. "Okay, then. See you later." Miya stated. She bit her lip and he

A Lie Away From You   Unspoken words

It has been exactly eight weeks since Miya's last visit to Dr. Christina's office, and today she had another visit to the hospital. She and Lucas had forgotten about their fight. Nonetheless, they had interacted little in the past few months because Luca was not thrilled that she was pregnant, nor cared to ask how her pregnancy was coming along or showed concern for their unborn child over the months. Lucas had never been of much help to her during the past few days. So Miya was kind of shocked when he offered to take her to the hospital. Yet she did not make any fuss about his offer since she was not in the mood for an argument. She and Lucas sat in his car as he drove her to the hospital, and none of them felt like talking. Miya kept her eyes focused on the window. She had her right hand resting on her tummy. Although her stomach was not huge yet, she almost certainly felt pregnant on the inside.

A Lie Away From You   She's more than a stranger

Two weeks later, Miya took the bus to get to the hospital to avoid the incident that happened between her and her husband the other day. So far, they had not spoken many words to each other since the day of their argument. Lucas did not stop his smoking and drinking, but that was not Miya's primary focus. She had been feeling a bit weird in recent times, and she could not wait to meet with doctor Christina to give her the results that she had been eager to hear for weeks. Miya felt afraid to do the home test since she was reluctant to find out the report on her own. After a few minutes, Miya got seated in the Dr. office, and she nervously stared at Doctor Christina. "Good morning, Miya. How are you feeling on this beautiful day?" The Dr. said. "I feel good, but I have been experiencing an increased need to urinate, and I have been feeling a bit nauseous in the morning these past day

A Lie Away From You   It's late for repentance

“Excuse me, sir. Are you ordering from the menu?” The waitress said as she looked down at Steven. Steven took one last look at the menu before he laid it down on the peach table cloth and turned toward the waitress. “I will have cornbread and tea.” He said. The waitress then turned her head and focused on Chloe, who remained seated opposite Steven. “How about you, miss? Can I get you anything?” She asked. Chloe gazed at Steven, who was not paying much attention to her, then looked back at the waitress. “I will have the same thing he had order.” Chloe replied. After the waitress left to get their order, Steven and Chloe sat in their seats quietly as they waited for the next person to say something. However, neither of them spoke until the waitress came back, served their food, and left them a

Miya and Lucas sat in the doctor's office, and Miya could tell that her husband would do anything to get out of there. “Okay, Lucas. I will need your specimen for the procedure.” Dr. Christina said as she set the transparent cup on the desk. L

The cold December breeze hit Steven's face as he sat in the back seat with Julie. Joe gazed at the V-mirror and saw how tightly his boss held unto Julie's hand, and he knew this was the hardest thing Steven had gone through since his mother's death. Although Joe started working with Steven after

A Lie Away From You   At the hospital

Julie rushed through the JVC hospital door and entered the lobby. The ubiquitous aroma of antiseptic fills the air hole in her nostrils as she inhales to catch her breath and the smell reminded her of the nurse room when she was in high school. "Madam, can you please move fro
