ADA PRIDE OF ALAOCHA (BK 1)

ADA PRIDE OF ALAOCHA (BK 1)

all started like a little spark in her chest, and then it grew and ignited her whole being with an outburst of emotion. Before she could recollect herself, she found out that she desired him more than anything in the world. She was madly in love. Ada was a palace maid, the most trusted servant in the palace. The king loves and cherish her very much that he told her secrets that even the Prince himself does not know about. This led to conspiracy, anger and jealously. The bitterness of betrayer ate Ada up when she found out that the man she loves most in the world, had tricked her into disclosing the location of the Ofor, the mantle of leadership in Alaocha, and had stolen it.

EPILOGUE
Four days later Ada closed her eyes, letting the sweet air travel into every part of her body. Dry season had parted ways and now they were kicking off for the first time into raining season. Her stomach was lifting and something she didn’t think she would ever feel in her life time walked into every part of her mind. Peace. The people of Alaocha and Ndiocha had agreed to live as one. They had chosen King Obidike as their King after Ada had forfeited any right to mount the throne. Chira was the Lolo (Queen), her heart had found love again with Obidike. Their

CHAPTER 50
“I am invincible,” King Chika yelled, “I am the King of the world.”The armies of both parties were shifting their weight as they studied the dragons that parades the sky. The cloud had darkened and the thunder was clapping with a hoarse voice.“You are but a creature,” Ada clutched her teeth. “But you are not invincible,” The thunder clapped again when their sword met midair. Ada spanned and deflected the blow coming from the right. She bent in time to save her head from the sharp edge of his sword. He was fast, but Ada was faster. She could match his speed and his strength now. Even though she couldn’t explain what was happening, she was gra

CHAPTER 49
Her hair bounced as Swiffer galloped away from the cave. Maybe its adrenaline that was heating her body, or perhaps it was fear. If everything goes on as planned, she still has a lot of work to do. But she must at the same time be smart and not let her past mistakes cloud her judgement. These creatures are mystical and are dangerous. “Sorry,” Ada shouted and blinked herself back to reality. The women on the road only cursed and glared at her, but she was too busy with her mind to pay any attention to them. She directed her zebra into the sandy path leading away from the village. I hope it’s not too late. The sun was high above the sky now, and its heat was drawing sweat from t

CHAPTER 48
King Obidike wiped the sweat on his brow with the back side of his left hand. He studied the scorching sun for a while before uncorking the goatskin water bag and gulping the fluid. Some of the liquid lingered in his mouth before he swallowed it. It was hard not to smile with relief from the refreshing fluid as they walked down his throat. This was one of the reason why he wanted to live in this part of the land. The waters were good, compare to the other side of the sea, where mountains and limestone polluted the little water they had. Even the rain was polluted. The sea was the closest fresh water they had, but that only comes after much cooking and boiling. Even that in itself could not compete with this thirst quenching liquid that was in his goatskin. He returned the skin back to its place and checke

CHAPTER 47
The path leading into the cave of bones was cold, and crowed with a nauseating air that reminded Ada of decomposing animals, beaten by a drizzling rain. To use emptiness to describe the place would be an exaggeration of what truly crept on the walls. No noise could be heard and nobody guarded the place either. Every corner blended obediently with the darkness which drove away the lights of the afternoon, and portrayed a barrenness that gloat like a toothless beast. If only she had the power to revert the hands of time. She would take it to that sweet night when this episode started. With the knowledge she has now, she was sure she could prevent it from happening. All of it. Maybe it’s selfishness, but a part of her missed that sweet feeling that always walks on her skin whenever she was with Ikedi. It would be nice to have that innocence again, to enjoy that ser

CHAPTER 46
Swiffer’s stride had not decreased a bit; despite hours of riding none stop in the harsh gaze of the sun. It was as if the animal understood the urgency of their mission.Sweat pricked Ada’s brow as she stared ahead, trying to keep her mind from wandering into the unknown. The most direct route to the cave of bones was through the other hand of the forest, far away from the forest of Iyi. But Ada had chosen the longer path. It was the only option if she wanted to avoid the warriors of Alaocha, who would be guarding the borders right now. Besides, the forest of Iyi was perceived to be dangerous. It was a route where only demons trend.Ada bit her lips and leaned in, adding more momentum to the strides of Swiffer. King Obidike and the entire people

CHAPTER 11
CHAPTER 11“You are a spy aren’t you?” The missing toe woman asked. Those crispy voices of hers echoed through the body of the trees. The hoarseness was soul-piercing and could almost chase one’s skeleton out of their skin. If Ejima remembered correctly, the woman’s voice bore a resemblance with that of the Dibia back in the village. The coldness and rigidity in them could not go unnoticed.“And you are the creature with a missing toe?” Ejima asked, not minding the angry glare the woman was shooting towards he

CHAPTER 10
The heat of the sun was already soft on her skin by the time she caught sight of the basket again. Perhaps the sun was going to bed, she couldn’t tell for sure. Her hands were burning, and every muscle seems to have turned into water. Fatigue was setting in and she knew it. She also knew that if she ceases using her hands as an oar, she would lose sight of the basket which was floating now at the edge of the river.Confident that the current of the river would not carry the basket away, she stopped beating the waters and immersed her head into the river. Every part of her body seemed to relax as the warm hands of the water massaged the weariness in her muscles. She even gulped some amount and was glad when the natural freshness strolled through her throat and blessed

CHAPTER 9
Culture and tradition? They are nothing but twin sisters in a symbiotic relationship. It would be hard to tell which of the two was sucking the virtue and the moral rights of the people. Generations have come and gone. Good and bad people fading with its hood. These traditions that govern the cultures of the people had been enacted by some of the fathers who had lived long before the village had been born. But, thinking about it now, it would be difficult to pinpoint the moment in history when the evil had crept in. The people had lived long enough with the folktales of the fathers to blot the dent in the dough that had swelled in the batch of morality. Perhaps the adage, Ihe ojo gba afo, obulu omenala (If evil remains long enough it becomes a culture), was in play

CHAPTER 8
Ejima yawned widely, not bothering to cover her mouth. She rested her weight on the broom and allowed her golden gaze to wander through the place she now calls home. It was nothing close to the size of her husband’s compound, and the dried leaves that carpeted the floor made her want to cuddle under her skin. Bloody cashew tree. She hissed and wiped the sweat drop that had strolled towards eyes eyelid. Leaning away from the broomstick, she continued with her chore, hoping to be done before the sun hangs on the center of the earth. But for the many trees, nothing stood for miles, just her small hut and the grasses. It would take about eight to ten miles before the next house could be seen. Seven weeks have passed since they drove her out of her husband’s place,

CHAPTER 7
How long had they carried her? Ejima whizzed, fighting through the rope that gaged her mouth. It was hard to get enough air, especially since her hands have been tied backward. The firm grip of the guard which locked her to the body of the Ostrich did not add any ease at all. She tried to struggle but realized just then that there was no strength in her. The weakness of childbirth was kicking in and it was taking all of wills power not to drift into the world of serenity. The pace of the Ostrich eased as they came before two burning torches. The Palace guards alighted, and one of them undid the rope that held her to the Ostrich. She fell heavily from the animal and cursed, but the gag in her mouth

CHAPTER 6
“I don’t think she can make it” Someone was saying. The words were gibberish and echoed in her ears like a multitude of people all saying the same thing simultaneously. Her legs and thigh were on fire and her body ached, but it was difficult to lift a limb. She tried to lift her head, but it was as if there was something pinning her down. Where am I? She tried to recall. The memory flashed back and a new pain sparked through her spin. She saw her husband and her best friend in her mind's eyes, smiling together, and laughing at their own jokes. She scoffed. But the image of her fall also flashed in her vision. My baby. Her hands would not move
